|| Tree Plantation Drive Commemorates World Environment Day at Jorhat Engineering College ||

In observance of World Environment Day on 5th June 2026, the Women Cell of Jorhat Engineering College
successfully organized a Tree Plantation Drive within the college campus. The programme was conducted with the objective of fostering environmental consciousness and encouraging sustainable practices among students, faculty members, and staff.

The event was inspired by the theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” emphasizing the collective responsibility of individuals and institutions in addressing environmental challenges and promoting ecological balance.

Faculty members, students, and staff enthusiastically participated in the plantation drive, planting saplings across designated areas of the campus. The initiative symbolized JEC’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its continued efforts towards creating a greener, healthier, and more sustainable campus environment.

Jorhat Engineering College today bid a heartfelt farewell to Shri Bipul Kumar Kalita, Scientific Assistant, Department of Physics, on the occasion of his retirement.

Mr. Kalita joined the Department of Physics on 2nd January, 1992 as a Laboratory Assistant, and through more than three decades of dedicated service, he became an integral part of the JEC family. His sincerity, efficiency, patience, discipline, and cooperative spirit earned him immense respect from colleagues and students alike.

Throughout his career, he made significant contributions towards practical and laboratory-based education, guiding generations of students with commitment and care. His honesty, hard work, and professionalism will always remain an inspiration to the institution.

Beyond academics and professional responsibilities, Mr. Kalita has also enriched Assamese society and culture through his active involvement in theatre, literature, and socio-cultural activities. He has been actively associated with Jorhat Theatre and is currently serving as its Assistant Secretary. He is also a recognized theatre artist of AIR Dibrugarh Centre and has been serving as a contractual announcer of AIR Jorhat Centre since its inception. As a distinguished cultural personality, his contributions have brought pride and recognition to Jorhat Engineering College over the years.

Jorhat Engineering College expresses its heartfelt gratitude for his invaluable service and wishes him a happy, healthy, and fulfilling retired life ahead.

At Jorhat Engineering College, the Alumni Association successfully organized a felicitation ceremony along with the 2nd Sashi Chandra Sarma Memorial talk, marking a significant occasion of pride and recognition for the institution.

The event was graced by Mr. Naresh Telgu, COO of the Adani Group, who interacted with the students and shared valuable insights from his professional journey, inspiring the young minds present.

During the ceremony, first-year students Alindita Kalita and Madhuryadeep Choudhury were conferred the Sangeeta Baruah Memorial Award by Dr. Plaban Kakati. The Alumni Association also felicitated Dr. Devakanta Rabha, along with students Sumi Sikha Bora, Hiya Bharadwaj, Rupam Dev, and others, in recognition of their outstanding achievements at the national level.

The event was further graced by the presence of the Principal, Dr. Rupam Barua, senior member of the Alumni Association Pranab Choudhury, President of the Guwahati branch Pradeep Ranjan Goswami, along with distinguished members Haramohan Kalita, Mukunda Pujari, Dr. Thuleswar Nath, Bimal Bardoloi, Arup Kumar Goswami, and many others. Er. Ratul Bordoloi delivered the vote of thanks.

The ceremony stood as a proud moment for the institution, celebrating excellence and motivating the student community to strive for greater achievements.

Jorhat Engineering College is pleased to announce that 11 students have been selected for 100% scholarship for APSC coaching, under the Scholarship Test for APSC CCE, organized in association with Sandpaper Academy for Civil Services.

This initiative has been generously supported by our faculty member, Prof. Arup Deka, in loving memory of his father, Late Shantiram Deka, with the aim of empowering deserving aspirants in their civil services journey.

The selection process was conducted through a rigorous three-stage evaluation:

• Descriptive Examination
• Personal Interview

The Mechanical and Civil Engineering Student Chapters of Jorhat Engineering College successfully organized the BIS Hackathon on “Basic Standards and Standardisation Problems” on 15th March 2026 at the Alumni House.

The event brought together students to develop innovative, real-world solutions addressing consumer safety, standard compliance, and fake certification detection, in alignment with the vision of the Bureau of Indian Standards. A distinctive improvement-based hackathon format encouraged participants to continuously refine and enhance their ideas in real time.

The event was evaluated by Dr. Deva Kanta Rabha and Dr. Priyakshi Mahanta, faculty members of Jorhat Engineering College.
The hackathon was mentored by Dr. Nitish Bharadwaj and Manash Prateem Gogoi, mentors of the BIS Student Chapters. Student coordination from the Mechanical and Civil Engineering departments was led by Jyotirmoy Deka, Plaban Pujari, Priyom Borkotoky, and Sayastha Saireen.

The organizers also extend their sincere gratitude to the JEC Alumni Association for their valuable support in making the event a success.

Congratulations to all participants and winners for their commendable efforts.

Today, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, inaugurated the newly constructed library, a 200-bedded boys’ hostel, and the indoor stadium of Jorhat Engineering College during an inauguration and foundation-laying programme held at Barua Chariali, Jorhat.

The programme was attended by members of the public and dignitaries, including the Director of Technical Education, Government of Assam, Shri Dhruvajyoti Bora. Representing Jorhat Engineering College were the Principal, Dr. Rupam Baruah, along with faculty members Dr. Aditya Bihar Kandali, Dr. Arup Bhattacharya, and Dr. Champak Kumar Bharali.

On 10th February, 4th Semester B.Tech Mechanical Engineering students of Jorhat Engineering College undertook an industrial exposure visit to Lakwa Thermal Power Station of Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited. (APGCL). The visit was organized under the BIS Mechanical Students Chapter to provide students with valuable industry exposure.

During the visit, students gained practical insights into the functioning of gas turbines, steam turbines, and gas engine–based power generation systems, along with boilers and other key components of a thermal power plant. They were also introduced to essential safety practices and industrial standards followed in large-scale power generation facilities.

A key highlight of the visit was an engaging and motivational interaction with the General Manager of the plant, where students discussed industry expectations, professional development, and the significance of engineering standards in real-world applications.

Such industrial exposure visits play a crucial role in bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical industry experience.
