A fieldwork programme was conducted at Dibru–Saikhowa National Park and the Maguri–Motapung Wetland on 19th and 20th December 2025. The programme was organised by the Department of Geography in collaboration with Wave Eco Tourism and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), DCB Girls’ College, Jorhat.
The fieldwork was primarily organised for the 6th Semester students as part of their academic requirement under the paper Geography of India (GGRC14). The fieldwork aimed to provide experiential learning on forest conservation practices, wetland ecosystem dynamics, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable livelihood practices in protected areas.
Special emphasis was given to understanding the ecological significance of the Dibru–Saikhowa National Park as a biodiversity hotspot, with particular reference to habitat conservation and the conservation status of the Hoolock gibbon, the only ape species found in India. The visit to the Maguri–Motapung Wetland enabled students to study wetland ecology, avifaunal diversity, hydrological characteristics, and the role of wetlands in supporting local livelihoods and eco-tourism initiatives. At the conclusion of the programme, certificates were awarded to the participating students in recognition of their successful completion of the fieldwork.
