Besides, regular practice will make them strong in mental calculations and this will prove very useful to score speedily.

Candidates should also work towards improving their logical thought process. English is another major / crucial area for candidates, mostly for students from semi-urban and rural areas of the country. Having said that it can also be a high scoring section for many. By saying English, we just don’t mean grammar, but also vocabulary. To improve their vocabulary, candidates should mark at least 10 difficult English words that they come across and jot it down in their diary daily and try to use them as and when possible.

To crack the English section, a candidate should practice grammar questions including, synonyms and antonyms, match the list, idioms, one word for many and fill in the blanks. To improve the grammar, they should read various grammar books and solve questions given in them.

Also, candidates should inculcate reading habit to score more in RC passage section. For this, they can start with reading Newspaper preferably English paper. Candidates should read not only those sections which interest them, but also those sections, which they don’t enjoy reading like the editorial, world page, science etc. After reading the passage, try to summarize the article like, what the author wants to convey, what is the take away from the article etc. Apart from Newspaper candidates should also read novels / magazines.

About MAT MBA Entrance Exam

The MAT MBA entrance exam held every year by the All India Management Aptitude Testing Service (AIMATS), New Delhi is a prestigious exam whose score cards are accepted by some of the best MBA colleges in India and Internationally. Hence it is essential that any one hoping to crack the MAT MBA exam has their basics in place and do not miss out the opportunity to get themselves a place in some of the best institutes for MBA across the globe.

The MAT test can be taken the paper pencil way while the online MAT test facility has also been made available. The minimum qualification to appear for the MAT MBA test is a Bachelor's degree in any subject by a recognized degree. A student in the final year can also apply however, to be able to get into a reputed college the candidate will be required to produce a bachelor's degree. The minimum percentage required for the MAT MBA exam may differ as per the institute one is applying to.
MAT MBA Exam Pattern

The MAT MBA paper pattern does not vary much as compared to the CAT MBA exam. The paper comprises of 5 sections with MCQ type questions. Each section contains 40 marks that is a total of 200 marks. The test is held for the duration of 150 minutes and the good part is that the paper contains no negative marking. Hence, one is advised to not leave any scope and try and attempt as much of the paper as possible. Most institutes consider the marks of the first four sections, while the fifth section, that of General Awareness is upon the discretion of the MBA colleges.
Tips for MAT MBA Paper
The five sections of the MAT MBA paper are mentioned below -

Language Comprehension
Mathematical Skills
Data Analysis and Sufficiency
Intelligence and Critical Reasoning
Indian and Global Environment

Language Comprehension

The language comprehension section is of the sorts we have been solving since our school days hence it should not be new to the candidates and one should try to solve them as quickly as possible. One old trick to solve the comprehension section is to read the questions before reading the comprehension so that one can make a mental note of some of the keywords and pay special attention to them when seen in the comprehension. Though should be done quickly it is important that this section be attempted with full concentration so that no time is wasted in going through the passage again and again. It is advisable to spend 30 minutes or less on this section.
Mathematical Skills

The Mathematical Skill section though most dreaded is one that is capable of fetching you 100% marks. However, for that one needs to have enough practice on MAT practice papers, evolve the technique of solving through the elimination process so as to arrive at the correct option. The elimination process though commonly advised should be used judicially since it means spending a lot of time on one problem. This section should be allocated a maximum of 40 minutes considering its importance and difficulty level.
Data Analysis and Sufficiency

The Data Analysis and Sufficiency is another highly scoring section hence, after spending enough time at the Maths section one should shift their concentration to the Data Analysis section. This section needs ample time and also makes use of the elimination process though in a slightly way. 35 minutes of the total time should be spent on this section.
Intelligence and Critical Reasoning

The Intelligence and Critical Reasoning section is usually full of traps and one must be ready to read between the lines of every question placed in front of them. It always helps to make a diagram of the arguments and options available, also try reading and re-phrasing the question before you jump on to answering it so that you are extremely sure of what exactly are you looking for in the answer. From personal experience always beware of the word "EXCEPT" it usually turns the meaning of question around and the shifts the stimulus. Try solving enough MAT mock test papers to get an idea. A section of average difficulty, this section should be allotted 30 minutes by every candidate to be able to manage time efficiently.
Indian and Global Environment

The final section termed as the Indian and Global Environment section is actually a general awareness section and can be tackled best by going through previous years' papers and making newspaper reading into a habit. Enough practice of sample papers, previous years' papers and a habit of reading the newspaper regularly and attentively is the way to attaining a good enough score card at the MAT. Since this section requires no calculations or techniques, it should be solved in the least possible time and should not be given any more than 15 minutes.
MAT MBA Books
Some of the books that can prove handy in cracking the MAT MBA and may be reach the merit list-

Barron's
501 Word Analogy Questions
Kaplan
Princeton Review

All in all if you are appearing for CAT and MAT both as is usually the case and are well prepared for CAT, MAT will not prove out to be such a tough task as the MAT paper is easier as compared to the CAT.
