Sir, what made the session particularly valuable was the way you took us beyond individual techniques and taught us how to approach patients across the entire spectrum of gastric variceal disease. Your discussion on patient selection, understanding the underlying anatomy and haemodynamics, choosing the appropriate intervention, and navigating the different clinical scenarios provided invaluable insights into real-world clinical decision-making.

Your systematic approach to these challenging cases, along with the practical nuances and experience that you shared, will undoubtedly help many of us approach these patients with greater clarity and confidence. We are also extremely grateful for the patience with which you addressed the numerous questions from our attendees and shared your thoughts on individual clinical scenarios.

ISVIR Junior Wing is honoured to welcome Dr. Prof. Wael Saad, MD, FSIR, to our academic platform!

Dr. Saad currently serves as Professor & Director of Vascular & Interventional Radiology and Vice Chair of Image-Guided Procedures, Department of Radiology & Imaging Sciences, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA. Over the course of his career, he has built a reputation as one of the most respected and influential voices in Interventional Radiology worldwide — a clinician-scientist whose work has shaped how the field approaches complex vascular pathology.

His contributions to the management of portal hypertension and gastric variceal disease, in particular, have been nothing short of pioneering. From refining procedural technique to advancing the conceptual frameworks that guide combination therapy today, Dr. Saad’s research and clinical leadership continue to influence practice patterns across the globe. For a generation of trainees navigating one of the more nuanced and evolving areas of IR, his work has become foundational reading and foundational teaching.

A sincere thank you to Dr. Anurag Gupta Sir for an extensive, comprehensive and highly practical session on “Biliary Interventions in Clinical Practice – A Practical Approach” as part of the ISVIR Junior Wing HPB & GI Masterclass.

Sir took us through the breadth of contemporary biliary interventions—from PTBD and internal/external biliary drainage, biliary stenting and cholangioplasty to brush cytology, intraductal biopsies, cholangioscopy and endobiliary RFA. The session also covered advanced and emerging techniques, including magnetic compression techniques for recanalisation of challenging biliary obstructions, along with several practical tips and nuances of managing complex biliary disease.

What made the session particularly valuable was Sir’s case-based, practical approach, sharing insights from his clinical experience and helping young IRs understand not just what to do, but how and when to approach different biliary interventions.

A special thank you to Sir for taking an extensive Q&A session and patiently answering the numerous questions from the young IRs who joined, making the discussion highly interactive and enriching.

Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mathew Cherian sir for an outstanding start to the ISVIR Junior Wing “How I Do It” Series.

Sir walked us through a highly interactive session on managing dissecting intracranial aneurysms — from balloon-assisted and stent-assisted coiling to parent artery sacrifice — blending core theory with real procedural insight.

What stood out was the step-by-step decision-making he shared, along with the time he took to address every question on how these interventions actually play out in practice.

Packed with clinical pearls and hard-won wisdom, this was a truly enriching session for everyone who attended.

Thank you, sir, for your mentorship and for setting such a high bar for the series ahead. Looking forward to many more sessions like this!

With this vision, the ISVIR Junior Wing is excited to launch “How I Do It”, a new educational series featuring concise 5–10 minute videos from eminent Interventional Radiology faculty across India, sharing their personal approach, technical tips, and procedural pearls for specific interventions.

We are honoured to begin this series with Dr. Mathew Cherian sir, who will share his way of “Endovascular Management of Intracranial Aneurysms” and will be covering 3 specific interventions: balloon assisted coiling, stent assisted coiling and parent artery occlusion.

The ISVIR Junior Wing extends its heartfelt gratitude to Jill Sommerset RVT, FSVU for delivering an outstanding Masterclass on Pedal Acceleration Time (PAT).

The session provided a comprehensive overview of the principles of Pedal Acceleration Time, including its technique, classification, interpretation, and wide-ranging clinical applications in the assessment of peripheral arterial disease. The detailed discussion on procedural methodology, practical tips, and common pitfalls offered valuable insights for both trainees and practicing Interventional Radiologists.

A special highlight of the session was the elaborate case-based discussion, which beautifully demonstrated the role of PAT in clinical decision-making, along with an in-depth exploration of Deep Venous Arterialisation(DVA). The real-world cases and interactive discussion made the session exceptionally engaging, practical, and academically enriching.

We sincerely thank all the IR trainees and practicing Interventional Radiologists who joined us and contributed to the vibrant discussion with their thoughtful questions and active participation.
