(संत मारकुस 9:14-29)

14) जब वे शिष्यों के पास लौटे, तो उन्होंने देखा कि बहुत-से लोग उनके चारों ओर इकट्ठे हो गये हैं और कुछ शास्त्री उन स विवाद कर रहे हैं।
15) ईसा को देखते ही लोग अचम्भे में पड़ गये और दौड़ते हुए उन्हें प्रणाम करने आये।
16) ईसा ने उन से पूछा, "तुम लोग इनके साथ क्या विवाद कर रहे हो?"
17) भीड़ में से एक ने उत्तर दिया, "गुरुवर! मैं अपने बेटे को, जो एक गूँगे अपदूत के वश में है, आपके पास ले आया हूँ।
18) वह जहाँ कहीं उसे लगता है, उसे वहीं पटक देता है और लड़का फेन उगलता है, दाँत पीसता है और उसके अंग अकड़ जाते हैं। मैंने आपके शिष्यों से उसे निकालने को कहा, परन्तु वे ऐसा नहीं कर सके।"
19) ईसा ने उत्तर दिया, "अविश्वासी पीढ़ी! मैं कब तक तुम्हारे साथ रहूँ? कब तक तुम्हें सहता रहूँ? उस लड़के को मेरे पास ले आओ।"
20) वे उसे ईसा के पास ले आये। ईसा को देखते ही अपदूत ने लड़के को मरोड़ दिया। लड़का गिर गया और फेन उगलता हुआ भूमि पर लोटता रहा।
21) ईसा ने उसके पिता से पूछा, "इसे कब से ऐसा हो जाया करता है?" उसने उत्तर दिया, "बचपन से ही।
22) अपदूत ने इसका विनाश करने के लिए इसे बार-बार आग अथवा पानी में डाल दिया है। यदि आप कुछ कर सकें, तो हम पर तरस खा कर हमारी सहायता कीजिए।"
23) ईसा ने उस से कहा, "यदि आप कुछ कर सकें! विश्वास करने वाले के लिए सब कुछ सम्भव है।"
24) इस पर लड़के के पिता ने पुकार कर कहा, "मैं विश्वास करता हूँ, मेरे अल्प विश्वास की कमी पूरी कीजिए"।
25) ईसा ने देखा कि भीड़ बढ़ती जा रही है, इसलिए उन्होंने अशुद्ध आत्मा को यह कहते हुए डाँटा, "बहरे-गूँगे आत्मा! मैं तुझे आदेश देता हूँ- इस से निकल जा और इस में फिर कभी नहीं घुसना"।
26) अपदूत चिल्ला कर और लड़के को मरोड़ कर उस से निकल गया। लड़का मुरदा-सा पड़ा रहा, इसलिए बहुत-से लोग कहते थे, "यह मर गया है"।
27) परन्तु ईसा ने उसका हाथ पकड़ कर उसे उठाया और वह खड़ा हो गया।
28) जब ईसा घर पहुँचे, तो उनके शिष्यों ने एकान्त में उन से पूछा, "हम लोग उसे क्यों नहीं निकाल सके?"
29) उन्होंने उत्तर दिया, "प्रार्थना और उपवास के सिवा और किसी उपाय से यह जाति नहीं निकाली जा सकती।"

14 As they were rejoining the disciples they saw a large crowd round them and some scribes arguing with them.
15 At once, when they saw him, the whole crowd were struck with amazement and ran to greet him.
16 And he asked them, 'What are you arguing about with them?'
17 A man answered him from the crowd, 'Master, I have brought my son to you; there is a spirit of dumbness in him,
18 and when it takes hold of him it throws him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and goes rigid. And I asked your disciples to drive it out and they were unable to.'
19 In reply he said to them, 'Faithless generation, how much longer must I be among you? How much longer must I put up with you? Bring him to me.'
20 They brought the boy to him, and at once the spirit of dumbness threw the boy into convulsions, and he fell to the ground and lay writhing there, foaming at the mouth.
21 Jesus asked the father, 'How long has this been happening to him?' 'From childhood,' he said,
22 'and it has often thrown him into fire and into water, in order to destroy him.
23 But if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us.'
24 'If you can?' retorted Jesus. 'Everything is possible for one who has faith.' At once the father of the boy cried out, 'I have faith. Help my lack of faith!'
25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd was gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit. 'Deaf and dumb spirit,' he said, 'I command you: come out of him and never enter him again.'
26 Then it threw the boy into violent convulsions and came out shouting, and the boy lay there so like a co**se that most of them said, 'He is dead.'
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him up, and he was able to stand.
28 When he had gone indoors, his disciples asked him when they were by themselves, 'Why were we unable to drive it out?'
29 He answered, 'This is the kind that can be driven out only by prayer.'

(संत लूकस 6:27-38)

27) "मैं तुम लोगों से, जो मेरी बात सुनते हो, कहता हूँ - अपने शत्रुओं से प्रेम करो। जो तुम से बैर करते हैं, उनकी भलाई करो।
28) जो तुम्हें शाप देते है, उन को आशीर्वाद दो। जो तुम्हारे साथ दुव्र्यवहार करते हैं, उनके लिए प्रार्थना करो।
29) जो तुम्हारे एक गाल पर थप्पड़ मारता है, दूसरा भी उसके सामने कर दो। जो तुम्हारी चादर छीनता है, उसे अपना कुरता भी ले लेने दो।
30) जो तुम से माँगता है, उसे दे दो और जो तुम से तुम्हारा अपना छीनता है, उसे वापस मत माँगो।
31) दूसरों से अपने प्रति जैसा व्यवहार चाहते हो, तुम भी उनके प्रति वैसा ही किया करो।
32) यदि तुम उन्हीं को प्यार करते हो, जो तुम्हें प्यार करते हैं, तो इस में तुम्हारा पुण्य क्या है? पापी भी अपने प्रेम करने वालों से प्रेम करते हैं।
33) यदि तुम उन्हीं की भलाई करते हो, जो तुम्हारी भलाई करते हैं, तो इस में तुम्हारा पुण्य क्या है? पापी भी ऐसा करते हैं।
34) यदि तुम उन्हीं को उधार देते हो, जिन से वापस पाने की आशा करते हो, तो इस में तुम्हारा पुण्य क्या है? पूरा-पूरा वापस पाने की आशा में पापी भी पापियों को उधार देते हैं।
35) परन्तु अपने शत्रुओं से प्रेम करो, उनकी भलाई करो और वापस पाने की आशा न रख कर उधार दो। तभी तुम्हारा पुरस्कार महान् होगा और तुम सर्वोच्च प्रभु के पुत्र बन जाओगे, क्योंकि वह भी कृतघ्नों और दुष्टों पर दया करता है।
36) "अपने स्वर्गिक पिता-जैसे दयालु बनो। दोष न लगाओ और तुम पर भी दोष नहीं लगाया जायेगा।
37) किसी के विरुद्ध निर्णय न दो और तुम्हारे विरुद्ध भी निर्णय नहीं दिया जायेगा। क्षमा करो और तुम्हें भी क्षमा मिल जायेगी।
38) दो और तुम्हें भी दिया जायेगा। दबा-दबा कर, हिला-हिला कर भरी हुई, ऊपर उठी हुई, पूरी-की-पूरी नाप तुम्हारी गोद में डाली जायेगी; क्योंकि जिस नाप से तुम नापते हो, उसी से तुम्हारे लिए भी नापा जायेगा।"

27 'But I say this to you who are listening: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

29 To anyone who slaps you on one cheek, present the other cheek as well; to anyone who takes your cloak from you, do not refuse your tunic.
30 Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your property back from someone who takes it.
31 Treat others as you would like people to treat you.
32 If you love those who love you, what credit can you expect? Even sinners love those who love them.
33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit can you expect? For even sinners do that much.
34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to get money back, what credit can you expect? Even sinners lend to sinners to get back the same amount.
35 Instead, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend without any hope of return. You will have a great reward, and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
36 'Be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate.

13) ईसा ने कैसरिया फि़लिपी प्रदेश पहुँच कर अपने शिष्यों से पूछा, "मानव पुत्र कौन है, इस विषय में लोग क्या कहते हैं?"
14) उन्होंने उत्तर दिया, "कुछ लोग कहते हैं- योहन बपतिस्ता; कुछ कहते हैं- एलियस; और कुछ लोग कहते हैं- येरेमियस अथवा नबियों में से कोई"।
15) इस पर ईसा ने कहा, "और तुम क्या कहते हो कि मैं कौन हूँ?
16) सिमोन पेत्रुस ने उत्तर दिया, "आप मसीह हैं, आप जीवन्त ईश्वर के पुत्र हैं"।
17) इस पर ईसा ने उस से कहा, "सिमोन, योनस के पुत्र, तुम धन्य हो, क्योंकि किसी निरे मनुष्य ने नहीं, बल्कि मेरे स्वर्गिक पिता ने तुम पर यह प्रकट किया है।
18) मैं तुम से कहता हूँ कि तुम पेत्रुस अर्थात् चट्टान हो और इस चट्टान पर मैं अपनी कलीसिया बनाऊँगा और अधोलोक के फाटक इसके सामने टिक नहीं पायेंगे।
19) मैं तुम्हें स्वर्गराज्य की कुंजियाँ प्रदान करूँगा। तुम पृथ्वी पर जिसका निषेध करोगे, स्वर्ग में भी उसका निषेध रहेगा और पृथ्वी पर जिसकी अनुमति दोगे, स्वर्ग में भी उसकी अनुमति रहेगी।"

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, 'Who do people say the Son of man is?'
14 And they said, 'Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.'
15 'But you,' he said, 'who do you say I am?'
16 Then Simon Peter spoke up and said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'
17 Jesus replied, 'Simon son of Jonah, you are a blessed man! Because it was no human agency that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven.
18 So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my community. And the gates of the underworld can never overpower it.
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven: whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.'

34) ईसा ने अपने शिष्यों के अतिरिक्त अन्य लोगों को भी अपने पास बुला कर कहा, "जो मेरा अनुसरण करना चाहता है, वह आत्मत्याग करे और अपना क्रूस उठा कर मेरे पीछे हो ले।
35) क्योंकि जो अपना जीवन सुरक्षित रखना चाहता है, वह उसे खो देगा और जो मेरे तथा सुसमाचार के कारण अपना जीवन खो देता है, वह उसे सुरक्षित रखेगा।
36) मनुष्य को इससे क्या लाभ यदि वह सारा संसार तो प्राप्त कर ले, लेकिन अपना जीवन ही गँवा दे?
37) अपने जीवन के बदले मनुष्य दे ही क्या सकता है?
38) जो इस अधर्मी और पापी पीढ़ी के सामने मुझे तथा मेरी शिक्षा को स्वीकार करने में लज्जा अनुभव करेगा, मानव पुत्र भी उसे स्वीकार करने में लज्जा अनुभव करेगा, जब वह स्वर्गदूतों के साथ अपने पिता की महिमा-सहित आयेगा।"
1) ईसा ने यह भी कहा, "मैं तुम से यह कहता हूँ - यहाँ कुछ ऐसे लोग विद्यमान हैं, जो तब तक नहीं मरेंगे, जब तक वे ईश्वर का राज्य सामर्थ्य के साथ आया हुआ न देख लें"।

32) पेत्रुस ईसा को अलग ले जा कर फटकारने लगा,
33) किन्तु ईसा ने मुड़ कर अपने शिष्यों की ओर देखा, और पेत्रुस को डाँटते हुए कहा, "हट जाओ, शैतान! तुम ईश्वर की बातें नहीं, बल्कि मनुष्यों की बातें सोचते हो"।

22) वे बेथसाइदा पहुँचे। लोग एक अन्धे को ईसा के पास ले आये और उन से यह प्रार्थना की कि आप उस पर हाथ रख दीजिए।
23) वे अन्धे का हाथ पकड़ कर उसे गाँव के बाहर ले गये। वहाँ उन्होंने उसकी आँखों पर अपना थूक लगा कर और उस पर हाथ रख कर उस से पूछा, "क्या तुम्हें कुछ दिखाई दे रहा है?"
24) अन्धा कुछ-कुछ देखने लगा था, इसलिए उसने उत्तर दिया, "मैं लोगों को देखता हूँ। वे पेड़ों-जैसे लगते, लेकिन चलते हैं।"
25) तब उन्होंने फिर अन्धे को आँखों पर हाथ रख दिये और वह अच्छी तरह देखने लगा। वह चंगा हो गया और दूर तक सब कुछ साफ़-साफ़ देख सकता था।
26) ईसा ने यह कहते हुए उसे घर भेजा, "इस गाँव में पैर मत रखना"।

24 The man, who was beginning to see, replied, 'I can see people; they look like trees as they walk around.'
25 Then he laid his hands on the man's eyes again and he saw clearly; he was cured, and he could see everything plainly and distinctly.
26 And Jesus sent him home, saying, 'Do not even go into the village.'

(संत मारकुस 8:14-21)

14) शिष्य रोटियाँ लेना भूल गये थे, और नाव में उनके पास एक ही रोटी थी।
15) उस समय ईसा ने उन्हें यह चेतावनी दी, "सावधान रहो। फ़रीसियों के ख़मीर और हेरोद के ख़मीर से बचते रहो"।
16) इस पर वे आपस में कहने लगे, "हमारे पास रोटियाँ नहीं है, इसलिए यह ऐसा कहते हैं"।
17) ईसा ने यह जान कर उन से कहा, "तुम लोग यह क्यों सोचते हो कि हमारे पास रोटियाँ नहीं है, इसलिए यह ऐसा कहते है? क्या तुम अब तक नहीं जान सके हो? नही समझ गये हो? क्या तुम्हारी बुद्धि मारी गयी है?
18) क्या आँखें रहते भी तुम देखते नहीं? और कान रहते भी तुम सुनते नहीं? क्या तुम्हें याद नही है-
19) जब मैने उन पाँच हज़ार लोगों के लिए पाँच रोटियाँ तोड़ीं, तो तुमने टूकड़ों के कितने टोकरे भरे थे?" शिष्यों ने उत्तर दिया, "बारह"।
20) "और जब मैंने चार हज़ार लोगों के लिए सात रोटियाँ तोड़ीं, तो तुमने टुकड़ों के कितने टोकरे भरे थे?" उन्होंने उत्तर दिया, "सात"।
21) इस पर ईसा ने उन से कहा, "क्या तुम लोग अब भी नहीं समझ सके?"

17 And Jesus knew it, and he said to them, 'Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not understand, still not realise? Are your minds closed?
18 Have you eyes and do not see, ears and do not hear? Or do you not remember?
19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of scraps did you collect?' They answered, 'Twelve.'
20 'And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many baskets full of scraps did you collect?' And they answered, 'Seven.'
21 Then he said to them, 'Do you still not realise?'

11) फ़रीसी आ कर ईसा से विवाद करने लगे। उनकी परीक्षा लेने के लिए वे स्वर्ग की ओर का कोई चिह्न माँगते थे।
12) ईसा ने गहरी आह भर कर कहा, "यह पीढ़ी चिह्न क्यों माँगती है? मैं तुम लोगों से यह कहता हॅू- इस पीढ़ी को कोई भी चिह्न नहीं दिया जायेगा।"
13) इस पर ईसा उन्हें छोड़ कर नाव पर चढ़े और उस पार चले गये।

(संत लूकस 6:17,20-26)

17) ईसा उनके साथ उतर कर एक मैदान में खड़े हो गये। वहाँ उनके बहुत-से शिष्य थे और समस्त यहूदिया तथा येरूसालेम का और समुद्र के किनारे तीरूस तथा सिदोन का एक विशाल जनसमूह भी था, जो उनका उपदेश सुनने और अपने रोगों से मुक्त होने के लिए आया था।
20) ईसा ने अपने शिष्यों की ओर देख कर कहा, "धन्य हो तुम, जो दरिद्र हो! स्वर्गराज्य तुम लोगों का है।
21) धन्य हो तुम, जो अभी भूखे हो! तुम तृप्त किये जाओगे। धन्य हो तुम, जो अभी रोते हो! तुम हँसोगे।
22) धन्य हो तुम, जब मानव पुत्र के कारण लोग तुम से बैर करेंगे, तुम्हारा बहिष्कार और अपमान करेंगे और तुम्हारा नाम घृणित समझ कर निकाल देंगे!
23) उस दिन उल्लसित हो और आनन्द मनाओ, क्योंकि स्वर्ग में तुम्हें महान् पुरस्कार प्राप्त होगा। उनके पूर्वज नबियों के साथ ऐसा ही किया करते थे।
24) "धिक्कार तुम्हें, जो धनी हो! तुम अपना सुख-चैन पा चुके हो।
25) धिक्कार तुम्हें, जो अभी तृप्त हो! तुम भूखे रहोगे। धिक्कार तुम्हें, जो अभी हँसते हो! तुम शोक मनाओगे और रोओगे।
26) धिक्कार तुम्हें, जब सब लोग तुम्हारी प्रशंसा करते हैं! उनके पूर्वज झूठे नबियों के साथ ऐसा ही किया करते थे।

17 He then came down with them and stopped at a piece of level ground where there was a large gathering of his disciples, with a great crowd of people from all parts of Judaea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon
20 Then fixing his eyes on his disciples he said: How blessed are you who are poor: the kingdom of God is yours.
21 Blessed are you who are hungry now: you shall have your fill. Blessed are you who are weeping now: you shall laugh.
22 'Blessed are you when people hate you, drive you out, abuse you, denounce your name as criminal, on account of the Son of man.
23 Rejoice when that day comes and dance for joy, look!-your reward will be great in heaven. This was the way their ancestors treated the prophets.
24 But alas for you who are rich: you are having your consolation now.
25 Alas for you who have plenty to eat now: you shall go hungry. Alas for you who are laughing now: you shall mourn and weep.
26 'Alas for you when everyone speaks well of you! This was the way their ancestors treated the false prophets.

(संत मारकुस 8:1-10)

1) उस समय फिर एक विशाल जन-समूह एकत्र हो गया था और लोगों के पास खाने को कुछ भी नहीं था। ईसा ने अपने शिष्यों को अपने पास बुला कर कहा,
2) "मुझे इन लोगों पर तरस आता है। ये तीन दिनों से मेरे साथ रह रहे हैं और इनके पास खाने को कुछ भी नहीं है।
3) यदि मैं इन्हें भूखा ही घर भेजूँ, तो ये रास्ते में मूच्र्छित हो जायेंगे। इन में कुछ लोग दूर से आये हैं।"
4) उनके शिष्यों ने उत्तर दिया, "इस निर्जन स्थान में इन लोगों को खिलाने के लिए कहाँ से रोटियाँ मिलेंगी?"
5) ईसा ने उन से पूछा, "तुम्हारे पास कितनी रोटियाँ हैं?" उन्होंने कहा, "सात"।
6) ईसा ने लोगों को भूमि पर बैठ जाने का आदेश दिया और वे सात रोटियाँ ले कर धन्यवाद की प्रार्थना पढ़ी, और वे रोटियाँ तोड़-तोड़ कर शिष्यों को देते गये, ताकि वे लोगों को परोसते जायें। शिष्यों ने ऐसा ही किया।
7) उनके पास कुछ छोटी मछलियाँ भी थीं। ईसा ने उन पर आशिष की प्रार्थना पढ़ी और उन्हें भी बाँटने का आदेश दिया।
8) लोगों ने खाया और खा कर तृप्त हो गये और बचे हुए टुकड़ों से सात टोकरे भर गये।
9) खाने वालों की संख्या लगभग चार हज़ार थी। ईसा ने लोगों को विदा कर दिया।
10) वे तुरन्त अपने शिष्यों के साथ नाव पर चढ़े और दलमनूथा प्रान्त पहॅुँचे।

1 And now once again a great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat. So he called his disciples to him and said to them,
2 'I feel sorry for all these people; they have been with me for three days now and have nothing to eat.
3 If I send them off home hungry they will collapse on the way; some have come a great distance.'
4 His disciples replied, 'Where could anyone get these people enough bread to eat in a deserted place?'
5 He asked them, 'How many loaves have you?' And they said to him, 'Seven.'
6 Then he instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven loaves, and after giving thanks he broke them and began handing them to his disciples to distribute; and they distributed them among the crowd.
7 They had a few small fishes as well, and over these he said a blessing and ordered them to be distributed too.
8 They ate as much as they wanted, and they collected seven basketfuls of the scraps left over.
9 Now there had been about four thousand people. He sent them away
10 and at once, getting into the boat with his disciples, went to the region of Dalmanutha.

(संत मारकुस 7:31-37)

31) ईसा तीरूस प्रान्त से चले गये। वे सिदोन हो कर और देकापोलिस प्रान्त पार कर गलीलिया के समुद्र के पास पहुँचे।
32) लोग एक बहरे-गूँगे को उनके पास ले आये और उन्होंने यह प्रार्थना की कि आप उस पर हाथ रख दीजिए।
33) ईसा ने उसे भीड़ से अलग एकान्त में ले जा कर उसके कानों में अपनी उँगलियाँ डाल दीं और उसकी जीभ पर अपना थूक लगाया।
34) फिर आकाश की ओर आँखें उठा कर उन्होंने आह भरी और उससे कहा, "एफ़ेता", अर्थात् "खुल जा"।
35) उसी क्षण उसके कान खुल गये और उसकी जीभ का बन्धन छूट गया, जिससे वह अच्छी तरह बोला।
36) ईसा ने लोगों को आदेश दिया कि वे यह बात किसी से नहीं कहें, परन्तु वे जितना ही मना करते थे, लोग उतना ही इसका प्रचार करते थे।
37) लोगों के आश्चर्य की सीमा न रही। वे कहते थे, "वे जो कुछ करते हैं, अच्छा ही करते है। वे बहरों को कान और गूँगों को वाणी देते हैं।"

31 Returning from the territory of Tyre, he went by way of Sidon towards the Lake of Galilee, right through the Decapolis territory.
32 And they brought him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they asked him to lay his hand on him.
33 He took him aside to be by themselves, away from the crowd, put his fingers into the man's ears and touched his tongue with spittle.
34 Then looking up to heaven he sighed; and he said to him, 'Ephphatha,' that is, 'Be opened.'
35 And his ears were opened, and at once the impediment of his tongue was loosened and he spoke clearly.
36 And Jesus ordered them to tell no one about it, but the more he insisted, the more widely they proclaimed it.
37 Their admiration was unbounded, and they said, 'Everything he does is good, he makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak.'

24) ईसा वहाँ से विदा हो कर तीरूस और सिदोन प्रान्त गये। वहाँ वे किसी घर में ठहरे और वे चाहते थे कि किसी को इसका पता न चले, किन्तु वे अज्ञात नहीं रह सके।
25) एक स्त्री ने, जिसकी छोटी लड़की एक अशुद्ध आत्मा के वश में थी, तुरन्त ही इसकी चर्चा सुनी और वह उनके पास आ कर उनके चरणों पर गिर पड़ी।
26) वह स्त्री ग़ैर-यहूदी थी; वह तो जन्म से सूरुफि़नीकी थी। उसने ईसा से विनती की कि वे उसकी बेटी से अपदूत को निकाल दें।
27) ईसा ने उस से कहा, "पहले बच्चों को तृप्त हो जाने दो। बच्चों की रोटी ले कर पिल्लों के सामने डालना ठीक नहीं है।"
28) उसने उत्तर दिया, "जी हाँ, प्रभु! फिर भी पिल्ले मेज़ के नीचे बच्चों की रोटी का चूर खाते ही हैं"।
29) इस पर ईसा ने कहा, "जाओ। तुम्हारे ऐसा कहने के कारण अपदूत तुम्हारी बेटी से निकल गया है।"
30) अपने घर लौट कर उसने देखा कि बच्ची खाट पर पड़ी हुई है और अपदूत उस से निकल चुका है।

24 He left that place and set out for the territory of Tyre. There he went into a house and did not want anyone to know he was there; but he could not pass unrecognised.
25 At once a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him and came and fell at his feet.
26 Now this woman was a gentile, by birth a Syro-Phoenician, and she begged him to drive the devil out of her daughter.
27 And he said to her, 'The children should be fed first, because it is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to little dogs.'
28 But she spoke up, 'Ah yes, sir,' she replied, 'but little dogs under the table eat the scraps from the children.'
29 And he said to her, 'For saying this you may go home happy; the devil has gone out of your daughter.'
30 So she went off home and found the child lying on the bed and the devil gone.
