The third day of the three-day hands-on training programme “From Gene to Patterns” at Narnarayan Shastri Institute of Technology, Jetalpur, featured a series of insightful expert lectures delivered by distinguished professionals from academia and forensic laboratories.

The day commenced with an engaging session by Dr. Shruti Dasgupta, Professor of Practice, UPSIFS, who delivered an informative lecture on the importance of DNA markers in paternity and maternity testing. She highlighted the scientific principles of kinship analysis and shared real-life case studies demonstrating how DNA evidence supports justice, parentage determination, and legal decision-making.This was followed by a technical lecture by Mr. Ashish Desai, Scientific Officer, DFSS Gandhinagar, who discussed Advanced Techniques in Forensic DNA Analysis. He elaborated on the latest laboratory advancements, improved sensitivity in DNA detection, and modern approaches that enhance the accuracy and reliability of forensic testing. In the subsequent session, Dr. Sachidanand Singh, Dean and Head, Department of Biotechnology, PDEU Gandhinagar, presented a comprehensive talk on Advanced Molecular Biological Techniques for DNA Profiling. He explained evolving molecular methodologies, the importance of stringent quality control, and the role of advanced biotechnology tools in strengthening forensic investigations. The day concluded with an insightful session by Dr. Geeta Gupta, HoD, Forensic Science, NSIT-IFSCS, who guided the participants through RFLP analysis and DNA profiling. She explained the principles of restriction fragment length polymorphism, its historical development, and its relevance as a foundational technique in forensic biology.

Day 3 remained highly interactive and academically stimulating, providing participants with holistic exposure to real-world DNA testing methodologies. The expert sessions significantly enriched the students’ understanding of forensic DNA technology and its applications.

Day-2 of the three-day hands-on training programme “From Gene to Patterns” at Narnarayan Shastri Institute of Technology, Jetalpur, featured intensive academic sessions and highly engaging practical demonstrations, all expertly conducted by the NSIT-IFSCS faculty team. 👩🔬👨🔬📚

The day began with an insightful session by Dr. Harjeet Singh, Assistant Professor, Forensic Biology, NSIT-IFSCS, who explained Electrophoresis and Band Patterns in detail. 🧫⚡ He covered DNA separation, formation of banding patterns, and their relevance in forensic interpretation—building a strong conceptual foundation for DNA profiling. 🧬📊

Next, Dr. Geeta Gupta, Head of Department, Forensic Science, NSIT-IFSCS, conducted a session on Forensics and Crime Scene Investigation. 🕵️♂️📍 She discussed crime scene documentation, evidence preservation, contamination control, chain of custody, and the critical importance of scientific precision during initial investigative stages. 📝🧠

Following the lectures, Ms. Khushboo Gautam led a hands-on training session on PCR and Electrophoresis. 🧪🔬 Students practiced PCR setup, gel casting, sample loading, running gels, and visualizing DNA bands—connecting theoretical concepts with real laboratory experience. 💡👩🔬👨🔬

The final session was conducted by Dr. Kalpesh Solanki, Assistant Professor, Forensic Biology, NSIT-IFSCS, who explained Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) in depth. 🔄🧬 He covered amplification cycles, reaction components, optimization strategies, and the central role of PCR in forensic DNA analysis. 📈🔍

Overall, Day-2 provided participants with comprehensive exposure to molecular forensic techniques, strengthening their understanding of the workflow from DNA to pattern generation. 🌟🧬📘

NSIT proudly inaugurated a three-day hands-on training programme titled “From Gene to Patterns”, scheduled from November 20 to 22, 2025. 🎉🧬

The programme commenced with an impactful inaugural address by Dr. Sailesh Iyer, Principal, NSIT-IFSCS followed by Inaugural and Keynote Address by Dr. Nikunj Brahmbhatt, Former Principal, NSIT-IFSCS and Former Assistant Director of the DNA Division, Directorate of Forensic Science (DFSS), Gandhinagar.

This advanced training features expert-led sessions by professionals including Ms. Ayushi Sharma, Crime Scene Manager from Vapi 🕵️♀️🔍, and scientific specialists from Thermo Fisher Scientific 🧪🧫. Designed to provide real-time exposure to the complete workflow of DNA profiling, the programme enables participants to experience each step—from sample collection to the generation of DNA patterns. 🔬📊
