National Wildlife Week Celebrations Day 6:

What better way to end the Celebrations than to go out and find critters? To finish the week with a bang, we had our first ever Faunablitz: 4 teams went out to find as many animals and identify them as could- within the time given. They have recorded about 149 observations within the 3 hours given! Kudos to all our participants for a wonderful job done.

With that, Wildlife Week 2025 comes to a close. See you again for our other events!

National Wildlife Week Day 5: In conversation with Dr Manoj V Nair, Chief Conservator of Forests, Odisha and the Director of Nandankanan Zoo, Bhubaneswar.

For the fifth day of our Wildlife Week celebrations, we sat down with Dr Nair to talk about everything from what it is like being a Director of a zoo, to books and literature, stories from the field and to how zoos contribute to conservation and the challenges that come with managing something of the size of Nandankanan.

An avid birder himself, Dr Nair joined us for a nature walk in campus after the talk!

We screened the documentary film 'All that breathes' as part of our Wildlife Week celebrations. Shaunak Sen's 2022 documentary tells the story of two brothers in Delhi trying to conserve black kites.

National Wildlife Week Day 3:

For the second talk in Wildlife Week Talk Series, we had Prathamesh Amberkar ( ) talk about the history of specimens collections and why dead animals can tell wonderful tales about evolution, biogeography and the planet. The story starts from the 16th century, and has continued all the way to the present day. His talk highlights why museums are so important for ecology and evolutionary studies.

We are proud to kickstart the National Wildlife Week 2025 celebrations on campus! Every year, Oorna celebrates the wildlife week at NISER to bring the community closer to nature. The NISER campus came alive on 18th January during our incredible tree walk, guided by Sayee Giridhari, a true champion of nature and Project Coordinator of SeasonWatch.

From identifying different tree species to understanding their role in the ecosystem, every moment was a lesson in the beauty of biodiversity. The journey didn’t just end there! A lively Q&A session, moderated by the insightful Geetha Ramaswami, and Sayee allowed us to dive deeper into our questions and thoughts about nature.

Thank you (Sayee) and .geetha (Geetha) , for your time, expertise, and inspiration. Your guidance has motivated us to look at trees not just as part of the landscape but as vibrant beings shaping our environment.
