The goal is to eliminate visible borders while maintaining optical stability, touch accuracy, and structural durability through tightly engineered panel integration.
Industry supply chain reporting suggests the foundation of this design is the removal of the traditional polarizer layer through Color Filter on Encapsulation (COE) technology. Standard OLED panels rely on a polarizing film to reduce reflections, but this adds thickness and introduces rigidity that limits edge curvature. By replacing this layer with a printed color filter structure, the display stack becomes significantly thinner and more flexible. This enables tighter micro-bending at the edges while also improving light transmission efficiency, which contributes to higher brightness and reduced power consumption.

Industry reports suggest the company's first book-style foldable device, widely rumored to be called the iPhone Ultra, will rely on these innovations to achieve the durability standards expected from a premium Apple product.
