On 20th June 2025, the Department of Swasthavritta, Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, (INI), Jamnagar, conducted a Workshop on Yogic Management of Geriatric Disorders as a part of the week-long Yoga Fest 2025, commemorating a decade of the International Day of Yoga.
The session was led by Vd. Shalinee Kumari Mishra, Associate Professor, Department of Swasthavritta, ITRA, (INI), Jamnagar. In her talk, Vd. Mishra delivered an insightful lecture addressing the multifaceted health concerns commonly faced during old age and emphasized the preventive and promotive potential of Yoga in geriatric care. She explained how yogic practices, when adapted appropriately can support joint health, cardiovascular function, respiratory efficiency, cognitive clarity, and emotional balance in the elderly.
Following the lecture, a practical yoga session was demonstrated by Ms. Deepa Rathore, Yoga Expert, Department of Swasthavritta, ITRA (INI), Jamnagar under her guidance. The session included asanas, pranayama, and meditative practices tailored specifically to the needs of the geriatric population. Throughout the session, volunteers from among the participants actively engaged in performing the practices, which added an interactive and experiential dimension to the workshop. These volunteers also shared their relevant feedback after each segment, reflecting on the effectiveness, comfort, and perceived benefits of the techniques demonstrated.
The workshop was anchored gracefully by Vd. Richa Jangpangi, MD Scholar, Department of Swasthavritta, who ensured smooth ex*****on and a well-coordinated flow throughout the session. The session witnessed an impressive footfall of 256 participants, including Ph.D., P.G. scholars along with E.D.Y.T. and U.G. students and members of the public, all of whom actively engaged with the content and appreciated its relevance making the final day of Workshop on Yogic Management a huge success.
