A Belpatra (Bael) sapling symbolizing purity, devotion and ecological balance was planted by Dr. Prem Kumar, OSD (T&A), IIMC Delhi. This initiative beautifully blends environmental responsibility with cultural reverence dedicating a tree to the nurturing spirit of a mother. 🌿
The event reinforced the importance of sustainable living and inspired students and faculty to actively contribute to a greener and healthier future.

IIMC Jammu Observes World Radio Day with Special Session on Music and Communication
Jammu. The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Jammu campus observed World Radio Day by organizing a special lecture on the “Role of Music in Communication” on Friday. The programme was an initiative of ‘Asmita’, the Cultural Society of students of IIMC Jammu. Prof. Pankaj Mala Sharma, Former Head, Department of Music, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the keynote speaker on the occasion. She highlighted the deep connection between traditional art forms and contemporary media practices.
Prof. Sharma elaborated on the concept of the five tattvas (Pancha Tatva) such as earth (Prithvi), water (Jal), fire (Agni), air (Vayu)and ether (Akash) and describing them as divine forces that form the foundation of Indian artistic and musical traditions. She emphasized that art forms such as music are timeless, continually evolving yet never losing their relevance.
She further explained the meanings and origins of mantra, kavita and richa and traced the formation of the Vedas, underlining their role as early structured forms of communication. Drawing parallels between ancient knowledge systems and modern media, she observed that the Vedas laid the groundwork for disciplined expression, narrative construction, and dissemination of ideas principles that remain central to today’s press, radio, and mass communication. The session was followed by an interactive question-and-answer segment, during which students engaged in a thoughtful discussion with Prof. Sharma on music, culture and media communication.
Earlier, Dr. Vinit Kumar Jha Utpal, In-charge, IIMC Events introduced the guest and highlighted the significance of World Radio Day. Dr. Dilip Kumar, Regional Director, IIMC Jammu underlined the continuing relevance of radio and sound-based media in the digital age. He encouraged students to draw inspiration from India’s rich cultural and musical heritage to become more sensitive and effective communicators.
The programme was moderated by Tanisha Kohli, a student of New Media. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Gulshan Kumar, Coordinator, Cultural Society, who acknowledged the speaker, organizers,and students for their active participation. All the students of New Media, English Journalism and Hindi Journalism along with the faculty participated in this occasion.

IIMC students take pledge of ‘Swadeshi Sankalp’ on National Youth Day
Jammu. The students of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Jammu has taken pledge of ‘Swadeshi Sankalp’ on the occasion of National Youth Day. IIMC, Jammu also organised ‘Run for Swadeshi’ program and celebrated the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand. During the programme, the students became aware about the life of Swami Vivekananda and his motivating ideas which inspire youth towards nation-building.
During the programme, Shourya Bhatnagar, students of Hindi Journalism recited a poem based on the Mahabharata. This poem elaborates India’s rich cultural values through the dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna. Sonia, student of English Journalism captivated everyone with a melodious Bhojpuri folk song and added a vibrant touch of folk culture to the program. Ashutosh Pandey, student of Hindi Journalism highlighted the challenges, mindset and social responsibilities of the youth through his poem. Prabhat Dwivedi, student of English Journalism delivered an energetic recitation of a poem written by great Hindi poet Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’ and ignited a sense of national consciousness among the students of IIMC. On this occasion, a quiz competition was also organised among the students by Hamza and Rohan, students of English Journalism.
Dr. Vinit Utpal, Assistant Professor of New Media emphasized that if consistent, positivity and collective efforts are made by the youth of India until 2047, this country will achieve new heights of progress. Prof. Anil Suamitra of Hindi Journalism encouraged students to study the biography of Swami Vivekananda and imbibe his ideals in their lives. Dr. Dilip Kumar, Regional Director remarked that the definition of youth is deeply connected with action, character and determination and Swami Vivekanand guides us in several ways. The program was moderated by Ashutosh Tiwari and Sneha Kumari, students of Hindi Journalism and vote of thanks presented by Saumya Pandey, student of English Journalism.
