On 14 September : Department of Community Health Nursing* organized a clinical visit for *M.Sc. Nursing students to the Government Chest Disease Hospital, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu [District Tuberculosis Centre, Jammu].*
*The visit was conducted in the following steps:*
*1. Pre-Evaluation:* Students were evaluated for their theoretical knowledge regarding Tuberculosis, so that they could correlate theory with practical exposure and move from known to unknown.
*2. Briefing Session:* A brief orientation was given on Tuberculosis, the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) , National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP). and TB recent updates.
*3. Visit to Various Sections:*
We visited all the practical sections and each section was thoroughly explained with updated information:
1.Treatment Section:
Explained the new drug regimen for TB - *BPaL.*
2.Laboratory Section:
*1.Explained CBNAAT [Cartridge Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test] GeneXpert* for detection of TB DNA
2.NAAT [Nucleic Acid Amplification Test]
3.Ultra portable and handheld digital x-ray Demonstration were done
Current Burden of TB disease in J and K:
Current incidence ratio of Pulmonary and Extra-Pulmonary TB in J&K is *60:40*
Current Morbidity Rate of TB in J&K is 7%
Mortality Rate is 1% were also discussed.
*4. Post-Evaluation:* At the end of the visit, post-evaluation was conducted. Students gained comprehensive knowledge about the latest updates, new diagnostic technologies and management of TB. All queries of the students were cleared by the Medical Officer, staff and their teacher.
Overall, the visit was highly beneficial and informative for both students and teacher
