An Awareness Programme Organised on Young Mind Drug Free Future by The Criminologists Society of J&K
An awareness programme under the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was organized at Maharaja Hari Singh Agricultural Collegiate School (MHAC), Nagbani, Jammu, in collaboration with The Criminologists Society of J&K, where members of the Society interacted with students and teachers on the growing menace of drug abuse and the urgent need for collective social action.
Advocate Mr. Rameshwar Singh Jamwal, President of the Society, delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation before the students and faculty members. In his address, he explained the psychological, social, neurological, and criminological dimensions of drug abuse and emphasized that addiction not only destroys individual lives but also adversely affects families, social stability, economic productivity, and national development. He also discussed preventive approaches based upon behavioural transformation, self-discipline, yogic practices, and positive social engagement.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Amarveer Manhas highlighted the alarming rise of substance abuse among youth and stressed the importance of awareness, discipline, family support, and value-based education in protecting society from this dangerous trend. Mr. Ranjeet Singh, General Secretary of the Society, elaborated upon the role of community participation, educational institutions, and social organizations in strengthening the campaign against narcotic addiction and behavioural degeneration among young people.
The speakers emphasized that The Criminologists Society of J&K has been continuously working for more than two decades against drug abuse, crime, juvenile delinquency, and other social evils through awareness campaigns, research, counselling initiatives, educational programmes, and community interventions. The Society stated that its long practical experience and field knowledge can be of immense benefit to the Government, educational institutions, parents, and society at large in effectively tackling the growing menace of drugs, particularly among students and youth.
Mrs. Himani Uppal conducted the proceedings of the programme in an effective and interactive manner.
Among others, Mr. Rakeshwar Singh Durswal, Vice President of the Society, Mr. Ashwani Kumar, Mr. B.K. Bhat, Mr. Chander Dev Manhas, Mr. Adeep Bandral and other members attended the programme.
Principal Mrs. Sonia Anand appreciated the initiative and stated that educational institutions must play a proactive role in guiding students towards discipline, moral values, and a healthy lifestyle free from drugs and other social evils and appreciated the efforts being undertaken by the Society in creating awareness among students regarding the harmful effects of drug addiction and the importance of responsible citizenship.
The programme concluded with a resolve to strengthen cooperation between educational institutions, civil society organizations, parents, and experts in order to build a healthier, disciplined, and drug-free society.
