Government Degree College Marh celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with great enthusiasm, patriotic fervour and national pride. The college premises presented a vibrant and festive atmosphere, beautifully illuminated and decorated with Tricolour-themed lights, reflecting the spirit of the national celebration. The programme commenced with the hosting of the National Flag by Prof. Anita Kumari, followed by the collective singing of the National Song “Vande Mataram” by the college community, creating an atmosphere of unity, patriotism and reverence for the nation. On the occasion, Prof. Anita Kumari addressed the students and highlighted the significance of Independence Day, the sacrifices of the freedom fighters, and the responsibilities of the younger generation towards nation-building. Students of the NCC and NSS units presented a variety of cultural programmes showcasing patriotism, national unity and respect for the country. Their performances added colour and enthusiasm to the celebrations and inspired students to uphold the values of freedom, unity and responsible citizenship. All teaching and non-teaching staff members of the college were present and actively participated in the celebration. The programme concluded with a strong sense of patriotism and pride in the nation, making the 80th Independence Day celebration a memorable occasion for the entire college community.

Government Degree College (GDC) Marh organised a series of activities as part of the celebrations leading up to the 80th Independence Day, creating a vibrant atmosphere of patriotism and national pride. The college premises were beautifully illuminated and decorated with Tricolour-themed lights, while a Rangoli Making Activity was organised by the Departments of Physical Education and Sociology. A total of 10 students participated enthusiastically in the activity, with Laxmi, Ruhi, Priya, Banshika and Mansi of B.A. Semester III creating colourful and creative Rangolis using vibrant colours. The artistic displays enhanced the festive ambience and reflected the students’ patriotic spirit and creativity. The entire event was organised by Sh. Ravi Kumar, College Director of Physical Education, and Dr. Shakun Sharma, with the active involvement of Mr. Sachin Bhagat, Ms. Asha and Ms. Surbhi. The activity was conducted under the able guidance of Prof. Ramneek Kaur, Principal, GDC Marh, and under the supervision of Prof. Anita Kumari. The initiative successfully promoted student participation, creativity, patriotism and a sense of collective responsibility, contributing meaningfully to the Independence Day celebrations.

GDC Marh organised a rangoli making activity as part of the celebrations leading up to the 80th Independence Day and The college premises were beautifully illuminated and decorated with Tricolour-themed lights. A total of 10 no.of students participated enthusiastically Laxmi, Ruhi, Priya, Banshika and Mansi from BA Sem 3rd created beautiful and colourful rangolis using vibrant colours. The colourful rangolis added to the festive atmosphere and made the Independence Day celebrations more attractive and memorable.

As part of the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign 2026 and the year-long commemoration of 150 years of the National Song Vande Mataram, the Departments of Physical Education, NCC, NSS and Road Safety Club of Government Degree College Marh, organized a Tringa rally from College to Village Dhateryal. The programme was organized to promote patriotism, national integration, and social harmony among students.

12 August 2026 (NCC Enrolment 2026-27)
Under the aegis of 2 J&K BN NCC and Worthy Principal Prof Ramneek Kaur, GDC Marh NCC enrolment for the session 2026-27 was done successfully. The enrolment process was conducted in the presence of senior faculty member Prof Anita Kumari and in coordination with PI Staff Sub Ajay Kumar CTO NCC, Dr Balwinder Saini. A total of 14 cadets were selected against the available vacancy and online enrolment is being done for the same, In addition the drill, parade class was also conducted for the senior NCC Cadets of the college. The refreshments were given to the cadets.

As part of the nationwide “Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign–2026” and the year-long commemoration of 150 years of the National Song “Vande Mataram,” the Departments of English, Hindi, Dogri and Education, Government Degree College Marh, organized a Rakhi Display and Making Competition along with the singing of the National Song “Vande Mataram” and the National Anthem. The programme was organized to promote patriotism, national integration, cultural awareness, creativity and social harmony among students. Students from different semesters participated enthusiastically and presented colorful, self-made Rakhis incorporating tricolor themes, patriotic symbols, traditional designs and messages of unity and national pride. The activity provided students with an opportunity to connect India’s rich cultural traditions with contemporary national initiatives and encouraged experiential and creative learning beyond the classroom.
The programme also highlighted the values of unity, brotherhood, cultural heritage and social responsibility associated with the festival of Raksha Bandhan. As a meaningful extension of the activity, students of the college tied Rakhis to the students of Middle School Dhateryal, conveying a message of affection, mutual respect, brotherhood and social harmony. The singing of Vande Mataram and the National Anthem further strengthened the patriotic spirit among the participants and sensitized students towards national symbols and values. The activity also provided a platform for students to demonstrate creativity, teamwork, communication skills and active participation in institutional and community-oriented activities.
The Rakhi Making Competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of various semesters. Anshu Bassan of 1st Semester secured the First Prize, Shivani Sharma of 5th Semester secured the Second Prize, and Rashmi Sharma of 1st Semester secured the Third Prize. The activity successfully encouraged students to express their creativity through traditional art while incorporating themes of patriotism and national integration. The programme was conducted in alignment with the objectives of the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign–2026 and the 150-year commemoration of Vande Mataram, thereby contributing to the development of holistic, culturally aware and socially responsible students.
The programme reflects the institution’s efforts towards student engagement, value-based education, preservation of cultural heritage, national integration and community participation, in consonance with the ongoing 150 years of Vande Mataram and Independence day celebrations. The active participation of students demonstrated their sense of responsibility and belonging towards the institution and society. The entire programme was conducted successfully under the guidance of the Principal, Prof. Ramneek Kaur, with the active involvement of the concerned departments and students.

GDC Marh, organized a one-day exhibition on “Tiranga and Vande Mataram.” The exhibition aimed to impart a spirit of patriotism among students, create awareness about the significance of the National Flag, honor the sacrifices of freedom fighters and veterans, and reconnect the younger generation with the symbols of national identity.

The Department of Education and Sociology, GDC Marh, organised a seminar on “Freedom, Development, Youth and Future” as part of the celebrations leading up to the 80th Independence Day. The seminar aimed to sensitise students about the significance of freedom, India’s developmental journey, and the role of youth in nation-building. More than 15 students participated actively and deliberated on education, technology, entrepreneurship, employment, environmental sustainability, and social harmony. Aksh*ta and Anshu secured 1st position, Bhanumati and Nishant 2nd position, while Sameer, Geetika and Anjali secured 3rd position, all from B.A. 1st Semester. The programme was organised under the able guidance of Prof. Ramneek Kaur, Principal, GDC Marh, and coordinated by Dr. Ashu Jolly and Dr. Shakun Sharma under the supervision of Prof. Anita Kumari. The seminar concluded with a message emphasising responsible citizenship, inclusive development, and active youth participation in shaping India’s future.
