Immigration Updates.
Changes to the academic progression rules on 6th April 2016
13 May 2016
We are still in discussion with the Home Office about some of their recent changes to the immigration rules on the 6th April 2016, in particular paragraph 55.
The following students will need to contact ISVAT for advice before applying for a new Tier 4 visa:
Students who have received repeat teaching in a new programme from the one their CAS was issued for;
Students who have failed to complete their previous programme and wish to extend their current visa;
Students who intend to transfer to a new programme, which is longer than their current visa;
Students who started studying on a new programme using their current Tier 4 visa, but now need to extend their Tier 4.
Students who have added a study abroad year to their undergraduate programme.
Students who have completed repeat teaching and now need to extend their visa.
The rules from the 6 April 2016 may now mean that you are no longer able to apply for your Tier 4 visa in the UK.
No changes to the Tier 2 rules for those switching from Tier 4
24 March 2016
In January, the Migration Advisory Committee announced their recommendations for reforming the Tier 2 (General) route. Initial recommendations would have impacted on the opportunities for students under Tier 2. The International Student Immigration Service and LSE Careers submitted a joint response to highlight the risks of introducing the recommendations, which include an Immigration Skills Charge.
Following the response from LSE and others, the Immigration Minister announced today there will be no changes for those switching from Tier 4 to Tier 2 in the April rule changes.
New immigration application charges from 18 March 2016
From the 18th March there will be an increase in the application fees for most visa applications.
Tier 4 and dependants - outside the UK £328
Tier 4 and dependants - Standard application in the UK £448
Tier 4 and dependants - Premium application in the £948
Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) - £465
BRP replacement - £56
Transfer of Conditions - £223
Lost/stolen BRP - what do you need to do?
Due to an increase in the number of students losing their BRP or having it stolen, we have updated our web pages on the actions you need to take in these circumstances. This increase is sector-wide and as such there may be delays in receiving your new BRP from the Home Office.
If you have pre-arranged travel, you may wish to consider applying through the premium service to obtain your new BRP sooner. Unfortunately, we are only able to assist in fast-tracking applications when there is emergency travel.
The best way to avoid this situation is to not carry your BRP on a daily basis and find an alternative form of proof of age.
Telephone Scam against international students
18 January 2016
We have been made aware that a new scam targeting international students is currently taking place. Details of the scam can be found on the UKCISA website.
The Home Office would not contact you by telephone to request additional payment regarding your visa. If you receive a telephone call do not give any of your personal details and do not pay them any money. Contact ISVAT immediately and we will be able to help you report it.

At 12.49% in IIT, state bags all-India second rank.
JAIPUR: Rajasthan fares second in number of students to have qualified this year for JEE-Advanced. The share of domicile students from the desert state was 12.49% out of 36,566 declared qualified for counselling for IITs. The first position is bagged by Uttar Pradesh with its share of 14.82%.
The icing on the cake is that most of the successful students are from Hindi medium and rural backgrounds. Other states like Maharashtra (8.85%) and Bihar (7.42%), which have always made a mark in the IITs, are way behind Rajasthan, says office of JEE-Advanced exam. The share of Rajasthan students includes students from all boards including RBSE, CBSE, ICSE and IB.
State's lion share is due to the emergence of quality CBSE schools in state, which experts feel has created a competitive ecosystem leading to mass selections from Rajasthan at national level exams like IITs, NEET and AIIMS. Explaining the reason behind this unprecedented success, Damodar Goyal of Society for Private Unaided School in Rajathan, said, "Most of the schools have adopted an integrated system by preparing students for IITs. It has provided an ease for students to take up competitive exams in the highly educative environment," said Goyal.
This year, CBSE schools in Jaipur have bagged three ranks in the top 10 of JEE-Advanced including top rank by Aman Bansal. From past three-four years, students from few selected cities in state like Jaipur and Kota, have been scoring top ranks not only in IITs but also in NEET and AIIMS exam. Data says 12 students from Rajasthan including seven from Jaipur and four from Kota made it in the top 100 list of JEE-Advanced.
The state board-wise rating also put Rajasthan on the third spot. Leading the list was Telangana followed by Maharashtra on the second spot. However, CBSE is leading with 53.47% students.
Data says that six students from RBSE board have made in the top 100 merit list of JEE-Advanced. Upbeat over the data, B L Choudhary , chairman of RBSE, said, "The data reiterates our claim that RBSE is one of the toughest boards in the country . The fact that our toppers of Class XII science stream got selected in IITs further proves the transparency of our evaluation system."
Sources also told TOI that RBSE is all set to moot a proposal to introduce an aptitude test in the early classes to filter out students who have an interest or inclination towards science. "The whole idea is to increase the number of students opting for science so that the output in terms of engineers and doctors can increase," said a board official.

Maneka Gandhi seeks cheaper education loans for girls
NEW DELHI: Union minister Maneka Gandhi has sought education loans on concessional rates for girl children in an effort to promote their education. The women and child development minister has made the request in a letter to HRD minister Smriti Irani and finance minister Arun Jaitley.
The WCD ministry, in conjunction with the HRD and health ministries, runs the NDA's flagship 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' scheme which aims at ending female foeticide and promoting the education of girls.
In her note to Irani, Maneka wrote, "When it comes to sending children for higher education, parents often distinguish between girls and boys... The girls often get denied the privilege of higher education or specialised courses only because parents do not wish to take a loan for their daughter's education."
She added that while other interventions were being looked at, a "small incentive" could be a concessional rate of interest on education loans.

Students should be vigilant about loans for futile degrees, says RBI governor
Over the ongoing issue of colleges/universities functioning illegally and demanding excessive fees from students, recently Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan said that all the aspiring students should be careful about selecting degrees in various colleges across the nation.
Details on Rajan's sugegstions:
• Higher education should be made affordable
• Students should not take up useless degree that might not give them any job opportunity
• Students should be careful about colleges with unknown identity demanding high fee
• Also, banks must keep a check on student's loans so that they are paid on time
• Fee concessions should be given to those who have genuine reasons for not paying fee.
Moreover, while speaking at the convocation ceremony of Shiv Nadar University, Raghuram said, "We have to be careful that student loans are repaid in full by those who have the means, while they are forgiven in part for those who fall on bad times or those who take low-paying public service jobs."
On inequality within countries:
• All the students coming from middle class families take huge amount of loans for completing higher education
• Also, the well-run market economies seemed to be favoring people who still have not paid their penalties
• To guarantee full faith in the market, all the students should get access of schooling and health care
• He also said, "This is because skills and capabilities have become much more important in well-paid jobs, and those born in good circumstances have a much better chance at acquiring theseâ?¦ the income inequality is on the rise, with some having colossal incomes and others worrying about the next meal."
In order to create a non-discriminating job and guarantee full faith in market, the students from all sections of the society should have a fair excess to schooling and health care facilities equal opportunities, he added.
While concluding his speech, he said,"Rather than prohibiting the use of money and wealth, let us think about increasing society's tolerance for its use."
