*Shaheedi Diwas Observed with Patriotic Fervour and Mass Singing of Vande Mataram at Government Degree College Darhal*
Government Degree College Darhal solemnly observed *Shaheedi Diwas* on *23rd March 2026* with great reverence and patriotic spirit. The programme was organized to commemorate the supreme sacrifices of India’s great freedom fighters, especially Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar, whose martyrdom continues to inspire generations.
The observance began with a formal tribute to the martyrs, followed by a series of academic and cultural activities reflecting the spirit of patriotism and national pride. Special emphasis was laid on the history and legacy of *Vande Mataram* and its role in strengthening the national movement.
The event was organized under the able guidance of the worthy Principal, *Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza*, who presided over the function. In his address, he elaborated on the importance of Shaheedi Diwas and highlighted the need to remember and honor the sacrifices of martyrs. He stressed that observing this day instills values of patriotism, discipline, and national unity among students. He further emphasized that the sacrifices of the martyrs serve as a guiding light for building a responsible and progressive society.
A major highlight of the programme was the *comprehensive and insightful lecture delivered by Dr. Atta Ul Rehman Malik, Head, Department of Political Science*. He presented a detailed historical account of the Indian National Movement, focusing on the revolutionary phase of the struggle. He elaborated upon the life, ideology, and sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar, emphasizing their fearless resistance against British colonial rule.
Dr. Malik also gave a vivid account of the historic events of *23rd March 1931*, when these three revolutionaries were executed by the British government in Lahore. He explained how their ex*****on was carried out ahead of the scheduled time in secrecy and how their martyrdom ignited a powerful wave of nationalism across the country. Importantly, he emphasized that Shaheedi Diwas is not only a tribute to these revolutionaries but also a solemn remembrance of *all those who sacrificed their lives or embraced martyrdom for the nation—both before and after independence*. He highlighted that countless known and unknown heroes have contributed to safeguarding the freedom, unity, and integrity of India.
Another significant lecture was delivered by *Prof. Taseem Ahmed, Head, Department of Geography*, who highlighted the geographical and socio-political dimensions of the Indian freedom struggle. He explained how unity across diverse regions strengthened the national movement and stressed the importance of awareness, planning, and responsible citizenship in nation-building.
In continuation of the programme, a *mass singing of the national song Vande Mataram* was organized with great enthusiasm. Students and faculty members collectively sang the song with deep emotion and patriotic zeal, creating an atmosphere filled with national pride and unity. The powerful rendition of *Vande Mataram* served as a heartfelt tribute to the martyrs and reinforced the spirit of devotion towards the motherland. The activity also marked the beginning of a week-long observance, during which the national song will be sung regularly to encourage maximum participation and patriotic awareness among students.
Students actively participated in the programme, showing keen interest and deep respect for the sacrifices of the martyrs. Their involvement reflected a strong sense of responsibility and awareness towards the nation.
The programme was attended by esteemed faculty members including *Prof. Ghulam Abbas, Dr. Taseem Ahmed, Dr. Mohd Akhlaq, Dr. Raja Shahid, Dr. Mohd Shakeel Kataria, Dr. Mohd Shakoor, Dr. Atta Ul Rehman Malik, Prof. Beenish Mir, Dr. Abdul Ghani Majid, Mr. Altaf Hussain, and Mr. Jameel Ahmed*, whose presence added dignity and significance to the occasion.
The entire programme was smoothly coordinated by the NSS Unit of the college, ensuring active participation and effective ex*****on of all activities.
The observance concluded with a vote of thanks and a collective pledge by all participants to uphold the ideals of the martyrs and contribute positively towards nation-building.
