Anekha Devi from Kathua to Represent India in Women’s Blind T20 World Cup

JAMMU, : Anekha Devi, a 20-year-old from Machhedi village, Kathua, has been selected for the inaugural Women’s Blind T20 Cricket World Cup (Nov 11–25). She is the only player from North India in the 16-member Indian team. Born with B2-level visual impairment, Anekha previously excelled in Judo, winning national gold medals. She later shifted to cricket and joined the Delhi Blind Women’s Cricket Team, performing strongly in national tournaments.

Her father is a daily wager, and her mother is a homemaker. Anekha aspires to inspire visually impaired girls in J&K to pursue cricket. Local leaders have praised her achievement and urged greater support for disabled athletes.

JammuAndKashmir | A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between HRDS India and the Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir to construct houses for families affected by Ops Sindoor and recent floods. HRDS India will build 1,500 fully-funded, modern 3-bedroom homes designed for comfort and safety. The initiative will also identify families of terror victims whose homes were destroyed by militants, providing them support. In addition to housing, HRDS India will offer life insurance coverage for all family members, regular health check-ups, and digital connectivity for each home. “Building houses is more than just erecting structures; it’s about restoring dreams, offering a new beginning, and helping affected families turn the page,” said LG Manoj Sinha. “The loss of lives is immeasurable and devastating, but this effort will bring much-needed relief.”

Manik Batra Elected President of Hockey J&K for 2025–29

SRINAGAR: Hockey J&K elections for 2025–29 were held in Srinagar with full district participation. Manik Batra was unanimously elected President, while Adv. Manmohit Singh became General Secretary and Gurpreet Singh Treasurer. Other office bearers and members were also elected smoothly under the National Sports Code. Asima Ali from Hockey India congratulated the team. Batra promised new initiatives to boost hockey in the region.

Srinagar to Host Asian Junior Pencak Silat Championship

The 3rd Asian Junior Pencak Silat Championship will be held in Srinagar from September 25–30, 2025.

Organized by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation, PFA, PERSILAT, and J&K Sports Council.

Around 300 athletes, coaches, and officials from 12 countries will participate.

Events include Tanding, Tunggal, Ganda, and Regu categories for boys and girls.

Follows the Asmita Pencak Silat League 2025, which had 500+ female athletes under Khelo India.

Aims to boost sports tourism and promote youth participation in martial arts.
