The Department of Environmental Sciences, Government P. G. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, organised a “Go Green Activity” in collaboration with the Commerce Department of the college. The H.O.D Environment Sciences, Prof. Neha Sharma, apprised the young students of their role in saving the environment from the day to day hazards. The principal of the college, Dr. Koushal Smotra congratulated the students and also encouraged them to take more such initiatives.

In persuance of the ongoing Gandhi Jayanti Pakhwara the Commerce department of Govt. P. G. College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu organised a trip for the students to Gandhi Sewa Sadan Hiranagar centre on 19th September, 2018 with the objective to create an entreprenurial desire among the students in line with Wartha scheme of education.

India’s 3rd National Festival, Gandhi Jayanti, was celebrated at Government P. G. College for Women Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, to commemorate birth anniversary of the father of nation, Mahatma Gandhi ji. In line with the 15 daylong celebration of Gandhi Jayanti, the event of Symposium on the theme of ‘Relevance of Gandhian philosophy in today’s life’ was organised by the COMMERCE DEPARTMENT of the college on 18th of September, 2018. The participants share their relevant experiences and perspectives on the significance of Gandhian philoshophy. The event was an illuminating interchange between presenters and the audience.

India’s 3rd National Festival, Gandhi Jayanti, was celebrated at Government P. G. College for Women Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, to commemorate birth anniversary of the father of nation, Mahatma Gandhi ji. In line with the 15 daylong celebration of Gandhi Jayanti, the COMMERCE DEPARTMENT of the college organised Slogan Writing event on the theme of ‘Gandhian philosophy of life’, on 15th of September, 2018. The students participated with a great zeal and enthusiasm. The drawing sheets and material was provided to the participants by the commerce faculty. Students not only wrote slogans but through the slogans they gave messages like Swachh Bharat, communal harmony, patriotism, etc.

The Department of Commerce at Government P.G. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, was started in 2013 when demand for Commerce as an educational choice was rising among the girl students.
The Department is still in infancy and has dreams to achieve. The faculty has a roadmap in mind and is sincerely thankful to the visionary principal of the college, Dr. Koushal Samotra, for her constant support and encouragement.
At present, the department has a small and cohesive group of six faculty members with 660 young bubbling students headed by Prof. Minu Mahajan. A consultative process and an all inclusive approach is followed for the management of the department. Meetings are held every Saturday with both staff and students’ representatives where all matters, big and small, pertaining to college life are discussed.
The department ensures the rigour of academic programme and the faculty strives to blend imagination and learning with creativity and innovation. The thrust is on challenging the minds to unite the language of critique with the language of possibility.
The department creates a stimulating environment for the academic growth of its students. The faculty members impact their students through regular talks, presentations and field trips. The objective of the department is not only to promote commerce but to provide the right kind of work ethics, professional expertise and leadership in all spheres of life.
