भारत के राष्ट्रीय ध्वज (तिरंगे) का वर्तमान स्वरूप *पिंगली वेंकैया (Pingali Venkayya)* द्वारा डिजाइन किए गए प्रारंभिक झंडे पर आधारित है, जिसे उन्होंने 1921 में महात्मा गांधी को प्रस्तुत किया था; इस डिज़ाइन में बाद में संविधान सभा द्वारा बदलाव किए गए और अशोक चक्र को जोड़ा गया, जिसे आधिकारिक तौर पर 22 जुलाई 1947 को अपनाया गया था, जिससे यह आज का तिरंगा बना।

The current form of India's national flag (the tricolor) is based on an earlier flag designed by *Pingali Venkayya,* which he presented to Mahatma Gandhi in 1921; this design was later modified by the Constituent Assembly with the addition of the Ashoka Chakra, and was officially adopted on July 22, 1947, thus becoming the tricolor flag we see today.
