College won the GNDU Basketball inter-college competition


Lyallpur Khalsa College has won the Basketball inter-college competition of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar. The championship trophy was presented by S. Kanwar Mandeep Singh, Assistant Director Sport, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. This information was given by Dr. G.S. Samra, College Principal He said that the college had a policy of offering liberal concessions and advanced sports facilities to its player students, as a result of which it had won the overall sports championship of the university 13 times. Sardarni Balbir Kaur President College Management congratulated the college sports department on this achievement. Dr. Jaspal Singh, Head Department of Physical Education and Sports, Dr. S.S. Bains Dean Sports and Sh. Rajinder Kumar Bhatia Coach were also present on this occasion.

Jassi Gill Performs at Lyallpur Khalsa College
Noted Punjabi actor Jassi Gill today interacted with students in Lyallpur Khalsa College and entertained them with his hit songs, particularly those of his forthcoming film Dildaariyan. Gill had come to the College along with his co-artist Babbal Rai for promotion of this film. Speaking on the occasion the college Principal Dr. GS Samra said that cinema had a great influence on young minds and it was imperative to produce movies strengthening cultural and moral values of our society. He also said that Punjabi cinema in recent years had witnessed a revival which was a positive change as far as the presentation and propagation of Punjabi cultural heritage was concerned. The stage on the occasion was conducted by Dr. Rashpal Singh, Dean Cultural Activities of the college. The occasion was witnessed by a large number of students and staff.

Workshop on Printing Graphics Design

A two day workshop on Pre-production and Printing Graphics Design began today in Lyallpur KhalsaCollege in which Mr. Arminder Singh senior graphics designer and Rohit Kumar graphics designer informed students about recent developments in graphics, animation and Printing Technology. They also briefed the students on career possibilities in these areas. Speaking on the occasion, the college principal Dr. GS Samra said that the workshop aimed at practically relating students with industry, so that they could be made competent to meet the requirements of the job market. The coordinator of the event Prof. Manohar Singh informed the present about the B.Voc courses recently introduced in the college. The occasion was witnessed by the presence of the senior teachers of the Computer Department of the college.

Lyallpur Khalsa College student wins 13 medals in 16 events in Swimming
Lyallpur Khalsa College achieved another historic milestone in the field of sports. Aman Ghai, a student of LyallpurKhalsa College has won 11 Gold Medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal out of 16 events in various swimming competitions held by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He has been declared as the best swimmer and his achievement has contributed to make Lyallpur Khalsa College first position in Inter college competition. Jaspal Singh Waraich, Joint Secretary, Governing Council and Principal gave cash amount of Rs.15,000/- to Aman Ghai for bringing laurel to the college. The college Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra also felicitated Aman Ghai on this achievement. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the college had a policy of offering liberal concessions and advanced sports facilities to its player students, as a result of which it had won the overall sports championship of the university 13 times in the last 15 years. Teej in Lyallpur Khalsa College
Jubilation, festivity and vibrancy truly reflected Punjabi culture and tradition, today in Lyallpur Khalsa College on the occasion of Teej celebrations. In a brief yet impressive function, girls students of the college performed Punjabi folk songs and Punjabi folk dance Gidha. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Ms. Geetanjali Sagar Yadav IRS, Assistant Commissioner Income Tax whereas the Guests of Honour were Ms. Amneet Kondal IPS, ACP North, Jalandhar and Smt. Parminder Beri eminent social Work. Addressing the present the Chief Guest Ms. Geetanjali Sagar Yadav Assistant Commissioner (Income Tax) said that festivals were the reflection of a culture and added that she was glad to see that Khalsa College boys was organizing a women’s festival as a mark of respect to women. Speaking on the occasion, the College Principal Dr. G.S. Samra said that it was needed that the traditions and values of our culture were protected. He also said that the responsibility of this preservation and protection lied equally with educational institutions as with other social set-ups. He reiterated the commitment of the Lyallpur Khalsa College to Punjabi culture. Vote of thanks on this occasion was made by Prof. Sarita Tewari. The occasion was marked by the presence of staff and students of the College.

Army Weapons Exhibition at Lyallpur Khalsa College

Students and staff today at Lyallpur Khalsa College got an opportunity to observe closely latest weapons and the way they were used in modern warfare, in a one day exhibition held in the college campus. Organised jointly by the college and the Vajra Core of the Indian Army, the exhibition had as its highlights, display of various types of rifles, land to air guns, radars and other communication equipments, protective devices against nuclear and chemical warfare and their handling and operation.
The event was inaugurated by Col.Jaswant Singh who briefed the present about significant role of the Army in maintaining internal as well as external security of the country.
Welcoming the guests the college Principal Dr. GS Samra said that the Army was the strength of the country and programmes such as that instilled a sense of respect for the soldiers and as well as of patriotism in people. He also urged the students to stay away from evils like drugs and contribute to the development of the country.

Nachhattar Gill Performs at Khalsa College

Seminar on Turban Styles in Khalsa College

To popularize turban wearing among students, a seminar was organized inLyallpur Khalsa College in which S. Manjeet Singh Ferozepuria, turban coach, informed students of different turban styles. Speaking on the occasion the college Principal Dr. GS Samra said that realizing and protecting one’s cultural heritage was one’s duty and it was in this line that such programmes were organized by the college, adding that turban had become an identity for the Punjabis across the world. He also informed that the college was organizing a turban training camp from 29 July to 21 August. The occasion was witnessed by the presence of large number of students and senior teachers of the college.

Grand Slam Performance by Lyllapur Khalsa College Students

Rajwinder Kaur Phull, a student of Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar, who secured 1st position in IVth semester in University exams of MA-Geography by getting 1242 marks out of 1600. Subeshwar Mahalder bagged 3rd position by getting 1211 out of 1600 in the same exams.

In a press release, the Principal of the College Dr. G.S. Samra gave this information adding that Lyallpur Khalsa College is the only college in Doaba region to offer MA Geography and is the first choice of the students because of its excellent teaching and impressive results in university exams. The President of the College Governing Council Sardarni Balbir Kaur congratulated the students and wished them success in life. S. Jaspal Singh Waraich Joint Secretary, Prof. Jasbir Singh Rana, Head Department of Geography and Dr. Lakhvinder Singh were also present in this occasion.

(IT) and Manvir Kaur semester III. Principal Dr Samra congratulated all those 11 students for bringing laurels and gave them blessings for their future. Lyallpur Khalsa College Lifts University Sports Championship 13th Time

Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar has captured the prestigious Teja Singh Samundari Overall Sports Trophy of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar for 13th time. The College Principal Dr GS Samra alongwithcollege Dean Sports Dr.SS Bains and Head Physical Education Department Dr Jaspal Singh received the trophy in the 45th Annual Sports Prize Distribution Function of the University today.

The College claimed the trophy with a total of 23163 points out of which 3538 point were for national level participation 7825 for interversity and 11800 points for intercollege level participation.

Speaking to the press the College Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra attributed the achievements of the college in sports to the efforts of Late S. Balbir Singh former President College Governing Council and ex- Member Parliament. He also informed that the College had a policy of promoting sports and it offered special facilities to its sports persons –such as liberal concession in fees, free hostel and mess facility.

The College Governing Council President Sardarni Balbir Kaur congratulated the sports department, staff and the students of the College on this splendid achievement.

Plasma 2015 at Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar
Around 523 IT Students from 21 colleges of showcased their technical skills in the Inter College IT Fest Plasma 2015 at Lyallpur KhalsaCollege today. Organized by the Department of Computer Science & Information Technology of the College, the event included competitions in 21 events including software showcase, website development, Logo Development, Logic Whirlpool, Ad mad Show, Idea Snap Shot, Net Savvy, IT Quiz, Test Your Technical Skills, IT in Colors, IT Collage, Debugging and Tech GD.
The event was inaugurated by Sardarni Balbir Kaur, President College Governing Council. In her address, she stressed on relevance of technical education, particularly IT expertise, in the contemporary times and reiterated the commitment of the college to quality education.
Welcoming the Guests, the college Principal Dr. G.S Samra elaborated the key achievements of the college in IT education and added that the college had started IT based advanced graduate level courses in printing technology and software development from the current session. Congratulating the prize winners he said that IT sector had a great scope for research and potential for employability.
The Chief Guest of the evening session was Ms. Gurjot Kaur Senior Executive Ajit Group of Publication and Sh. Krishan Kumar Rattu Deputy Director General Doordarshan Kendra, Chandigarh who gave away prizes to the winners. Congratulating the prize winners they said that IT sector had a great scope for research and potential for employability. Cash Prize for four event (IT Quiz, Electronic Expo, Idea Snapshot and Web Portal Development) were awarded by Sh. Harvir Singh (Canada)
