~~~~ IELTS: How to listen and read at the same time ~~~~
Tip 1: Underline or circle words on the question paper that indicate what information you’re listening for
Before you listen, if you circle or underline words in the questions that tell you what you’re listening for, you won’t need to read the whole of each question again when you listen to the recording. (Remember that you’ll be given some time to read the questions before each of the sections in the IELTS Listening test).
How to Avoid informality in IELTS writing::
-1. Abbreviations: Here’s; shouldn't; don’t; there’s. These should not be used.
=> Write here is; should not; do not; there is
- A lot of: This is very common, informal expression. For countable nouns, use many (what many students do…) and for uncountable nouns use a great deal of (there was great deal of expansion in the 1990s)
-
2. A sentence beginning with And. You should also avoid starting sentences with But and So.
- An incomplete sentence: The last sentence is not a complete sentence, since there is no main clause.
- Big is not a formal word: Large is. Similarly, A little number of students should be A small number of students.
How to finish speaking in Part 2 cue card in IELTS
If you have discussed all the points on your cue card and you have spoken for at least one and half minute (a little longer is better), you can show the examiner that you have nothing more say with a natural expression such as:
That’s all I have to say.
So, that’s it.
That’s everything.
So, basically, that’s it.
Reading Exam Tips ::
1. Try and perfect the first two the sections. Passage 1 and 2 in the test are the easiest and would thus more likely yield points for the test taker.
2. Invest on quality review materials for the Reading Test. This is especially important because the IELTS Reading Exam is 50% language skills and 50% techniques.
3. Practice, practice, practice. Since 50% of the examination is technique-based, practicing these techniques is essential to hitting that high band score.
4.) Success in reading = LOCATION(in which para the answer lies +
UNDERSTANDING(can you understand the lines in which answer is)
One day focus on finding where the answer lies,the other focus on understanding(take as much time as you want to understand the lines)
Effective Ways of Answering The Speaking Exam ::
1. Avoid one-word answers: If you answer with a plain “yes” or “no”, your English language skill is equivalent to that of a three-year old.
2. There is always a hidden “why” in IELTS speaking exam questions: This means elaborate.
3. “I don’t know” and “I have no idea” are end-of-the-world, last resort statements. The two statements are sentences that you should never use, unless you really have no idea about the topic.
4. Have an opinion on everything. The IELTS Speaking examination is about anything under the sun.
5. The IELTS speaking examination is not really difficult. Remember the ultimate goal: prove that you can speak.
5 things to avoid during the Speaking Tests::
1. Do not slouch.
Slouching is a sign that you are too confident or disrespectful. Giving this impression to your interviewer can somehow affect how he deals with you. Instead, once you are asked to sit, sit straight and always listen carefully with what the interviewer is going to say.
2. Wear proper clothing.
Wear something sophisticated.You should feel comfortable as you will sound more confident when you will feel comfortable.
3. Avoid being nervous.
If your interviewer asks you if you are nervous, never say yes. Tell them that you feel good and ready for the exam. Telling them that you are nervous won’t get you any good score nor sympathy from them.
4. Focus on the interviewer.
When the interview starts, always establish a good eye contact with your interviewer. Do not look at what he or she is writing. Reading his or her comments about you is disrespectful. Be professional and look your interviewer in his or her eyes.
5. Avoid yes and no responses.
This is an evaluation of how conversant you are in English. Make the conversation active by providing more details to your answer or even ask the same question with your interviewer. Carry the conversation well and stop giving your interviewer close-ended responses.
