Why did it rain so heavily in North India that it caused floods in Punjab and devastation in the mountains?

1. Interaction of Western disturbance and monsoon. It is a rare phenomenon. A Similar interaction was responsible for June 2013 floods in uttarakhand. When monsoon and western disturbance interacted with each other it led to heavy rainfall.

2. Global Warming : capacity to hold moisture in the air increases with temperature and global warming has led to higher moisture levels in the air which in turn lead to heavier rainfall

3. A shift in the monsoon patterns ( There are long periods of rainfall deficit and short bouts of heavy downpours )

What is Western disturbance ?
Western disturbance is essentially a storm that forms over the Mediterranean but it is a low-pressure system which Travels east through the Middle East and Iran.

Western disturbances are quite frequent and substantially affect weather in north india they cause cloud cover rainfall and even snowfall in the higher regions of Himalayas. When monsoon and western disturbance interacted with each other it led to heavy rainfall.
IMD chief said that the mountains get a lot of rain during such interactions because winds hit the hills and rise, causing heavy precipitation

ਪੱਛਮੀ ਗੜਬੜ ਇੱਕ ਤੂਫਾਨ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਭੂਮੱਧ ਸਾਗਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਘੱਟ ਦਬਾਅ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੱਧ ਪੂਰਬ ਅਤੇ ਈਰਾਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪੂਰਬ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪੱਛਮੀ ਗੜਬੜੀ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਵਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਮੌਸਮ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਹੱਦ ਤੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਿਮਾਲਿਆ ਦੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੱਦਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਰਖਾ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਬਰਫ਼ਬਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਮਾਨਸੂਨ ਅਤੇ ਵੈਸਟਰਨ ਡਿਸਟਰਬੈਂਸ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਟਕਰਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਰੀ ਬਾਰਿਸ਼ ਹੋਈ। ਆਈਐਮਡੀ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਹਾੜਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਘਟਨਾ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਮੀਂਹ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹਵਾ ਪਹਾੜੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਟਕਰਾ ਕੇ ਵਧਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਰੀ ਵਰਖਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਇਹ ਹੜਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੈ ਬਾਕੀ ਹੋਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਕਾਰਨ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਭਾਰੀ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ 🙏🙏
