Department of Foreign Languages pleased to inform you that within the framework of the Printemps des Poètes Festival and on the occasion of the 200th birth anniversary of Charles Baudelaire on Friday, 9th April 2021, the French Institute in India is organising two events as follows to celebrate the poet and his exceptional work:
· Discussion : Baudelaire et l’Inde (in French)
Time : 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Join us with French experts Prof. André Guyaux, Aurélia Cervoni, and Andrea Schellino who will explore Baudelaire's journey to the Indies, how India features in his works and literature in India at the time of Baudelaire. The conversation will be moderated by Dr. Christine Cornet, Attaché for Books and Ideas at the French Institute in India.
· Conversation : Impact of Baudelaire on Indian authors' works (in English)
Time : 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Join us with renowned Indian authors and poets Jeet Thayil, Ranjit Hoskote, Amrita Narayanan and Anupama Raju who will talk about how Charles Baudelaire left a mark on them and influenced their work. The conversation will be moderated by Ms. Jaya Bhattacharji Rose, Literary critic & Co-founder at Ace Literary Consulting.
The event will have a special musical interlude by Jeet Thayil as his tribute to the poet.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS - Atelier de traduction / Translation workshops
The French Institute in India is pleased to launch its Translator's Factory.
This programme aims at giving young translators at the beginning of their careers the opportunity to work with other more experienced translators and to gain a better understanding of the translation and publishing landscape in both countries.
The initiative will improve the quality of translations from French into Indian languages & vice versa. It also prepares for long term cultural exchanges between both countries: India Guest of Honor Country at Livre Paris 2021, France Guest of Honor Country at the New Delhi World Book Fair in 2022.
The first series of 5 workshops will be for translation from French to Malayalam from 15th October to 15th June 2020. These virtual workshops, of 3 hours each, will be conducted by Ms. Dominique Vitalyos, a renowned translator of Malayalam and English for the Indian domain.
Participants will be selected for further training in France at the CITL (Centre International de Traduction Littéraire)

The annual “Rentrée Littéraire”, a major event in the world of literature in France, will begin soon. On this occasion, French publishers release hundreds of new titles, starting from the end of August. It puts the spotlights on French as well as foreign literature.
On this occasion, the French Book Office of the French Institute in India will conduct an online webinar on “Rentrée littéraire” on 25th August 2020 at 6:30 pm.
Three French publishers -Sabine Wespieser, Zulma Publishers and Éditions de la Découverte- will be in conversation with Zubaan, Cre-A and Vani Prakashan. Each pair of French and Indian publishers will present two major books of 2020.
The conversation will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
