1) The Origin : Established in 1990, in Jaipur, The International Institute of Management Entrepreneurship (IIME) is an autonomous, non-profit organization registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. Its genesis lies in the recommendations of the Radhakrishnan National Commission on Education which held that Rajasthan's rich entrepreneurial resources should be tapped for the benefit of
the people. The Institute came into being as a multidisciplinary research organization. Its mandate is the economic and social upliftment of the society, and the provision of facilities for the development of the state include:

• Socio-economic research studies including studies on entrepreneurship, management, business history, industry, and rural development;
• Formulation of need based courses in management, entrepreneurship, and computers;
• Provide quality education at all levels;
• Facilitating sustained efforts for the paid industrialization of the Rajasthan by providing holistic information on the state.
• Building a sustainable partnership between corporate and developmental activities;
• Working independently and in partnership with voluntary organization towards integrated rural development.

4) Legal Status : IIME is an autonomous body and non-profit organization set up in response to the recommendations of the Radhakrishnan National Commission on Education, which emphasized the need to tap Rajasthan's rich entrepreneurial resources for the benefit of society through quality education.
• The Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, has accorded recognition to IIME as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization under section 35(1)(iii) of the Income Tax Act, 1961, eligible for 125 per cent tax exemption.
• Justice P.N Bhagwati and Justice R.S. Pathak, Former Chief Justice of India, Chairmen recommended to the National Committee for Promotion of social and Economic Welfare of the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) Government of India, New Delhi to approve the inclusion of this institute in the public interest for its social cause which has been notified in the Gazette of India, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section(ii) No.330, New Delhi, 6 June 1996.
• The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has granted registration to this Institute under Section 6(1) of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976 for receipt of foreign contributions.
• The Director General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India has provided importer-exporter code (IEC) to the Institute for its publications.
• The Income-Tax Commissioner, Jaipur, has approved the Institute under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
• The Department of Urban Development and Housing, Government of Rajasthan, has notified IIME in the Gazette of Rajasthan in February 1993.
5) Governing body : The Governing Body and members are Sh. Bala Balachandran, Shri Piyush Pandey, Dr. S.C. Bansal, and Dr DK Taknet, all talented and experienced persons from a variety of disciplines. The Research Advisory Committee of IIME consists of senior social scientists who formulate, implement, oversee, and evaluate research activities. The committee is headed by Dr. Raja J. Chelliah, an eminent economist and Dr. Bala Balachandran, Former professor Kellogg School of Management, USA.
6) Business history musemum (BHM) and Data Archievs : BHM and Data Archievs has a rich collection of books, research material, reports, reference works, conference proceedings, and other relevant documents. There is a large volume of miscellaneous literature, including government documents, published standards, pamphlets, reprints, annual company reports, material relating to research organizations, voluntary agencies, and multilateral organizations. Classified newspaper clippings are also maintained. The BHM and Data archives has initiated the compilation of bibliographies at the behest of scholars. It has thus emerged as a pioneering research unit providing access to a wide range of sources of information. IIME is shortly planning to start a training programme for social science librarians using computerized information retrieval and processing techniques. The Institute's Computer Centre is modern and sophisticated, equipped with the latest computers and printers. Regularly updated software packages for statistical analysis of data are used here, and an internet facility is also available. Financial accounting is computerized and maintained by this division. The Centre has also developed various software packages relating to projects undertaken by the Institute for speedy collection and retrieval of data, and also to provide the users with the latest and quickest source of information. Activities of the data archives include the development of research, provision of the relevant data, and guidance and consultancy services in data processing. The acquired data sets are documented and made available to interested scholars for secondary analysis. The guidance and consultancy services are also available to researchers and scholars in data processing, including the development of instruments for data collection and selection of appropriate statistical techniques for data analysis. Where necessary, computer programming support is also extended.
7) Main Objects :
• to provide graduate, postgraduate, doctoral programmes, and need–based courses in all areas, including international business, management, entrepreneurship training, and information technology in India and overseas for student, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and government officers;
• to offer short-and medium –term management development programmes as refresher courses, basic courses directed to all levels of management , international business, international finance, and policy issues both in India and abroad;
• to undertake, support, promote, carry out, and coordinate research in the field of management, entrepreneurship, business history, rural development, or socio and economic research in any area by establishing chair(s) or other bodies as the institute may deem fit;
• to collaborate with national and international organizations for the promotion of advanced research and training in telecommunications, software development, knowledge process outsourcing, survive, hospitality, and fashion technology, and promote these areas through the grant of scholarships, fellowships, visitor ships, honorary degrees, prizes, medals, and awards to meritorious students, teachers, and prominent personalities;
• to disseminate knowledge through collection of published and unpublished book, manuscripts, and maintain these in business history museum and library for the advancement of education and research;
• to prepare, edit, print, publish, and circulate books, reports, papers, periodicals, journals, circulars, newsletters in multimedia and other forms of mass-communication to disseminate the results of all such research to the public;
• to provide value-based education with a global orientation by establishing opening promoting, maintaining, and running educational institutions at all levels, such as schools, colleges, vocational centres, research institutions that will impart sound and liberal education with the aim of giving students and experts a strong foundation in management, entrepreneurship, developmental areas, information technology;
• to educate and train people in the development of entrepreneurial skills through positive interventions in order to supply the kind of entrepreneurs that the Indian economy requires;
• to promote, support, and undertake programmes and collaborative activities with national and international organization in the area of economic growth, agriculture, environment, stabilization of population growth, enhancement of food security, and other areas of interest;
• to work independently or in partnership with national and international voluntary organizations for the improvement of the rural economy through women's empowerment, by undertaking training and employment programmes in order to upgrade the skills of the women and the quality life in Rajasthan;
• to undertake any other activity of general public utility, either alone or in conjunction with other organizations or persons as the institute may consider necessary from time to time, incidental or conducive to the attainment of the objectives of the institute as an educational body, and to cultivate and promote the arts, sciences, and other branches of learning based on no profit and no loss. SELECTED SIGNIFICANT RESEARCH PROJECTS/STUDIES : Research studies are a primary focus of the Institute's activities.
