Bodh Shiksha Samiti

Bodh Shiksha Samiti Community-based NGO working towards universalization of quality education since 1987. This belief has continued to shape all institutional efforts.

Bodh Shiksha Samiti (here after referred to as Bodh) evolved from experiences of collective action that helped establish a community school or bodhshala in Jaipur (Rajasthan, India). The school, initiated in 1987, was the result of a unique partnership between the Gokulpuri urban slum community and a group of likeminded men and women. The bodhshala reaffirmed the group’s belief that quality educat

ion was an inalienable right and that deprived communities possessed the strength to translate this vision into reality for their children. Today, Bodh is recognised as a pioneer in the field of education for the urban deprived with growing expertise in the rural domain as well. It has also gained the stature of a resource agency for providing training and other support focusing on aspects such as child centred pedagogy, community involvement in education etc. Its key strength lies in its emphasis on learning from varied community settings and classrooms. This process of learning is aided by its network of bodhshalas (urban and rural), the innovative Manas Ganga Schools (Senior Secondary Residential Girls School, Pre and Primary School) and the work with the government schools. Overall, Bodh is engaged in programme implementation (in urban slums and rural habitations), evolving and refining teaching learning processes, professional development and other stakeholder trainings, research and documentation, networking and policy advocacy. It reaches out to more than 26,000 deprived children (urban and rural) through its bodhshalas and government schools in Jaipur and Alwar districts, Rajasthan, India. It has touched the lives of many more children through partnerships with likeminded NGOs and agencies across the country. All this has been possible through the collective efforts of many stakeholders. These include communities, local self governments (rural and urban), the Government at central and state levels, teachers, programme partners, academic experts and institutions, countless supportive individuals and many other bodies/agencies. Above all, the active participation and interest of children has lent a special (and continuous), sense of vibrancy, joy and fulfillment. Objectives:

-To provide conceptual framework, content and method of quality care and education and also ensure equitable access to it for all children

-To support ‘hard to reach’ communities in raising integrated community schools for their children’s holistic development and appropriate education

-To build partnerships with government systems to mainstream and institutionalize tested and validated innovations

-To work with common interest groups and networks for wider policy advocacy and action

-To help establish and manage institutions that provide theoretical and practical support to likeminded people and initiatives/organizations

📚✨ Anil Kaur is one of the best teachers in Bodh. In many ways, she gives life and meaning to what it means to be a teacher. She grew up in a refugee slum of Jaipur, Guruteg Bahadur Basti, where Bodh started its community school more than thirty years ago. She was selected to be a child-teacher in one of our initiatives, and she showed her ability to work with children there itself. Given her family conditions, she fought her way to finish her studies while working and growing as a teacher simultaneously. She emerged as a living example of Bodh's pedagogic approach and community-led education.

Blessed with two children, just some days back, tragedy struck her in an unimaginable way. Her 22-year-old son, Farveen, was found lifeless in a forest area of Chandigarh. It felt as if this would break her completely, as she didn’t eat or sleep properly for days. We don’t know where she got her strength back, but in less than a month’s time, we found her back in the classroom. This is a photo from her first day in the class after facing such a tragedy, and you can simply read what the picture says. It is an understatement that she defines what it means to be a teacher. We are so thankful, Anil, for inspiring all of us by just being yourself. 🙏 We are so proud of you dear Anil and we all are with you always.

Yesterday, we witnessed something truly powerful. ✨

LORI — a soul-stirring Bharatanatyam performance by Aranyani Bhargav — moved us all as it brought to life the haunting verses of Faiz Ahmed Faiz and the heartbreaking realities faced by children in Gaza.

Held at Manas Ganga School & College, this event wasn’t just about art. It was a moment of solidarity, empathy, and deep reflection — reminding us how dance can speak when words fall short.

Gratitude to Aranyani and everyone who came together to make this possible. ❤️

May we continue to use our voices, our art, and our platforms to stand for what matters. 🙏🏻
