I’m always finding an excuse to travel if it means I get to train with a different Wing Chun master. It’s one of the things I love most about the art. Everyone expresses the same system in their own unique way, and every time I train, I come away seeing Wing Chun a little differently. I’d wanted to train with Sifu Goeksel for a long time because I was really intrigued by his expression of Wing Chun. Being a mechanical engineer, he explains concepts through car engine analogies, and the way he breaks down structure, relaxation and efficiency just clicked with me. It’s moments like these that remind me how endlessly fascinating Wing Chun is. The more I learn, the more I realise how much there is still to explore and that’s exactly what keeps me coming back.
