ऑस्ट्रेलिया के गोल्ड कोस्ट में चल रहे 21वें कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स में मीराबाई चानू ने भारत के लिए पहला गोल्ड जीता. उन्होंने स्नैच में 86 का स्कोर किया और क्लीन एंड जर्क में 110 स्कोर करते हुए कुल 196 स्कोर के साथ गोल्ड मेडल जीतकर इतिहास रच दिया. बता दें, चानू का जन्म मणिपुर की राजधानी इंफाल में 8 अगस्त 1994 को पैदा हुआ. उनका पूरा नाम 'साइखोम मीराबाई चानू' है. उनकी उम्र 23 साल है.

भले ही आज चानू से गोल्ड हासिल कर देश का नाम रोशन कर दिया है लेकिन एक समय था जब वह खेल की दुनिया छोड़ना चाहती थी. बीबीसी की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार एक समय था जब चानू डिप्रेशन में चली गईं थी और उन्हें हर हफ्ते मनोवैज्ञानिक के सेशन लेने पड़ते थे.साल 2016 में हुए विश्व चैंपियनशिप में कर्णम मल्लेश्वरी के बाद गोल्ड मेडल जीतने वाली वह दूसरी भारतीय बनी थी. जिसके बाद वह काफी हताश थी. इस निराशा से उबरने में मुझे काफी समय लगा.

मीडिया रिपोर्ट की माने तो उस दौरान चानू ने खेल को अलविदा कहने का मन बना लिया था. लेकिन उन्होंने हार नहीं मानी और फिर खेल की दुनिया में जबरदस्त वापसी की. वहीं आज गोल्ड जीतने के बाद उनके मन को तसल्ली मिली जिसका दर्द वह 2016 से झेल रही थीं.
