When the vast majority of people say “I”, it is a part of them,
of their feeling, their body, their thought, indifferently, which
speaks; it is something that always changes. Therefore, their “I”
is innumerable, or the “I” always varies. What is the constant
thing therein?... The psychic being, evidently. For, to be constant
a thing must first be immortal. Otherwise it cannot be constant.
Then, it must also be independent of the experiences through
which it passes: it cannot be the experiences themselves. Hence,
it is certainly not the bed of the river which constitutes the river;
the bed is only a circumstance. If the comparison is carried a
little farther (besides, comparisons are worthless, people find
in them whatever they want), it can be said that the river is a
good symbol of life, that what is constant in the river is the
species “water”. It is not always the same drop of water, but it
is always water—without water there would be no river. And
what endures in the human being is the species “consciousness”.
It is because it has a consciousness that it endures. It is not the
forms which last, it is the consciousness, the power of binding
together all these forms, of passing through all these things,
not only keeping a memory of them (memory is something very
external), but keeping the same vibration of consciousness.
And that is the great mystery of creation, for it is the same
consciousness, the Consciousness is one. But the very moment
this Consciousness manifests itself, exteriorises itself, deploys
itself, it divides itself into innumerable fragments for the need
of expansion, and each one of these fragmentations has been
the beginning, the origin of an individual being. The origin of
every individual form is the law of this form or the truth of this
form. If there were no law, no truth of each form, there would
be no possibility of individualisation. It would be something
extending indefinitely; there would be perhaps points of concentration,
assemblages, but no individual consciousness. Each
form then represents one element in the changing of theOne into
the many. This multiplicity implies an innumerable quantity of
laws, elements of consciousness, truths which spread out into
the universe and finally become separate individualities. So the
individual being seems constantly to go farther and farther away from its origin by the very necessity of individualisation. But once this individualisation, that is, this awareness of the inner truth is complete, it becomes possible, by an inner identification, to reestablish in the multiplicity the original unity; that is the purpose of the universe as we perceive it. The universe has been made so that this phenomenon may take place. The Supreme has manifested Himself to Himself so as to become aware of Himself.
In any case, that is the purpose of this creation. Let us be
satisfied with our universe, let us make the best use possible of our life upon earth and the rest will come in its time.

What activities of the Ashram can I participate in?

Visit to the Samadhi
You can go to the samadhi for pranam and meditation any time during the day. The Ashram gate opens at 4.30 in the morning and closes at 11.00 at night. There is also a meditation hall inside the main Ashram building where you can sit.
Collective Meditations
On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday there is a collective meditation around the samadhi from 7.25 pm to 7.50 pm. This is open to everyone. No pass is required. On Thursdays and Sundays, a collective meditation is held in the Ashram Playground between 7.45 pm and 8.15 pm. This is open only to the Ashramites and the visitors staying in the Ashram guest houses who have been given Playground passes. These must be shown at the gate.
Exhibition and Video programmes at Bureau Central
The exhibition is an introduction to the life and yoga of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother through their own writings. It also offers a glimpse into the Ashram and its activities.
Everyday, except Sundays, there is a video presentation on one of several topics. The video programmes present the life and work of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, the Ashram, flowers and their significances, etc.
Conducted Tours
Autocare Services operates two tours every week day: at 8.15 am, to see Ashram and Ashram-related departments and at 2.00 pm, to visit Auroville (Matrimandir). The Auroville trip does not wait for the meditation (5.00 pm to 6.00 pm) at the Matrimandir, since first-time visitors are not allowed.
(This is for the aspirants who have so far not visited pondicherry)

🌻🌻 EVENT OF SIDDHI DAY🌻🌻 "•••१९२६ के नवम्बर का आरम्भ हुआ।

When one is habituated to see the things behind, one is no longer prone to be touched by the outward aspects—or to expect any remedy from political, institutional or social changes; the only way out is through the descent of a consciousness which is not the puppet of these forces but is greater than they are and can compel them either to change or disappear.

I seek
a light that shall be new, yet old, the oldest indeed of all lights.I seek an authority that accepting, illuminating and reconciling
all human truth, shall yet reject and get rid of by explaining it all
mere human error. I seek a text and a Shastra that is not subject
to interpolation, modi®cation and replacement, that moth and
white ant cannot destroy, that the earth cannot bury nor Time
mutilate. I seek an asceticism that shall give me purity and deliverance
from self and from ignorance without stultifying God and
His universe. I seek a scepticism that shall question everything
but shall have the patience to deny nothing that may possibly
be true. I seek a rationalism not proceeding on the untenable
supposition that all the centuries of man's history except the
nineteenth were centuries of folly and superstition, but bent on
discovering truth instead of limiting inquiry by a new dogmatism,
obscurantism and furious intolerance which it chooses to
call common sense and enlightenment; I seek a materialism that
shall recognise matter and use it without being its slave. I seek
an occultism that shall bring out all its processes and proofs
into the light of day, without mystery, without jugglery, without
the old stupid call to humanity, ªBe blind, O man, and see!º In
short, I seek not science, not religion, not Theosophy, but Veda
Ðthe truth about Brahman, not only about His essentiality,
but about His manifestation, not a lamp on the way to the
forest, but a light and a guide to joy and action in the world, the
truth which is beyond opinion, the knowledge which all thought
strives afterÐyasmin vijnate sarvam vijnatam. I believe that
Veda to be the foundation of the Sanatan Dharma; I believe it
to be the concealed divinity within Hinduism,Ðbut a veil has
to be drawn aside, a curtain has to be lifted. I believe it to be
knowable and discoverable..I believe the future of India and the
world to depend on its discovery and on its application, not to
the renunciation of life, but to life in the world and among men.
