Common Interview Questions
Question :- Why did you choose to work in a bank?
Why you want job in a government bank when you can get better salary in private jobs?Why you want a Clerk Job in Bank after doing B.tech.(Engineering)?
Answer:- realistically to show your genuine desire of working in a bank. If B.tech graduates are asked about opting for a bank job after engineering, they can say " Uncertainity of future and growth in IT Companies due to recent turbulence and high recent growth in banking sector." You should manipulate your answer to prove that your engineering degree would be beneficial for you in interacting with people and creating more business relationships for them.
Question :- What are your Strengths and Weaknesses ?
Answer:-
Strengths:- You should mention your strengths that are beneficial for them. For example, It should not be like "I am a very good cricket Player", Rather you should focus on strengths that are related to that job. For example, "I have good communication skills" Or "I Like Interacting with people" Or "I am good at a analyzing Problems and working in a team to find out appropriate solutions".
Weaknesses :- You should not say that you do not have any Weakness. It shows that either you are Overconfident or have not assessed yourself and don't want to talk about it.
Similarly do not say phrases like "I am short tempered" Or "I get angry very soon and can do anything in anger". Rather you should genuinely mention the areas that are related to your professional life and you are trying to get better at them.
Question :- Tell us Something about Yourself ?
Answer:- Be natural and calm. Speak Slowly and Tell them about your strengths, achievements and passions etc. This question should not take more than 3 Minutes to be answered. Keep in mind that they know that you are capable as you have already cleared the written test, now you have to show them your suitability and genuine desire for this job. So mention your strengths and interests that are related to that job. Doing a brief research about that Bank/Company before the interview is advised. Remember that at the end of the day you have to make the interviewer feel that you are the right person for this job.
SBI (State Bank of India) is the country's largest bank and is set to announce huge clerical and PO Staff vacancies in the year to come. It is something to cheer about for the bank jobs seekers as having a job in SBI is always considered a big pleasure. SBI Is currently conducting interviews for its clerical and Stenographers recruitment 2012 and will soon announce final results for it.
20000 Positions to be filled in one year:-
As per a report on Businessline, SBI is looking to recruit 19,000 clerks and 1,000 officers in next one year. SBI currently has 80,329 officers and 95,018 clerks on its rolls in June, 2012.
Mr. A. Krishna Kumar, Managing Director and Group Executive (National Banking), said that SBI will soon open about 1200 new branches and new recruits will serve these branches majority of which will be in Metro/Urban Areas. As clerical staff is less in many branches majority of new vacancies will belong to clerical cadre.
35% to retire in 5 Years:-
Mr. A. Krishna Kumar said that vacancies will continue to arise in future as 35-40% (About 80000) employees are set to retire in next 5 years. So, new people will be needed to replace these people and also to serve newly opened branches.
1000 PO recruitment to be announced soon:-
According to sources, SBI will soon announce 1000 PO Vacancies. As far as clerical vacancies are concerned, they may take some time as they can be announced only after finishing the currently ongoing clerical recruitment process for which Interviews are being conducted currently. So, clerical notification is expected to arrive in Late 2012 (Dec - Jan).
However, PO vacancies are on road to be announced and its something to cheer for the aspirants that have complaints with the current recruitment process. SBI has been and always will be the largest job creator in banking sector in India.

As a Bank Clerk, you could be separated into one of the following:
Interest Clerk: recording interest owed to saving accounts customers and interest owed to the bank from loans and other investments.
Loan Clerk: recording and organizing loan information.
Statement Clerk: preparing the monthly balance sheets of checking account customers.
Exchange Clerks: working on international accounts, translating foreign currency into Pounds Sterling and vice versa.
Security Clerk: recording, filing and looking after stocks, bonds and other investment documents.
Bookkeeping Clerk: taking care of records for each customer's account.
There are various other clerical roles you could be involved in as a Bank Clerk to help keep the bank in order. Just like any other business, banks need help with general tasks, such as data entry, filing, mail handlers, and messengers.
Hours and environment
Generally, you'll be working between 35 and 40 hours a week as a Bank Clerk. Depending on the bank and its hours, you could be expected to work some evening and weekend shifts too.
Banks maintain a pleasant working atmosphere, though to help concentration as a Bank Clerk you would often be working alone.
Skills and interests
To be a good Bank Clerk, you must have the ability to work neatly and accurately good written and verbal communication skills good numeracy and calculation skills good IT skills and computer literacy an honest and trustworthy nature good attention to detail entry
To become a Bank Clerk, you'll usually need to give evidence of a good educational background. This would need to emphasize basic skills in typing, bookkeeping, and business maths. Training
Most training is done on-the-job. You can work towards NVQs/SVQs in Customer Service at levels 2 and 3, and Providing Financial Services at levels 2, 3 and 4.
The Diploma in Financial Services Management (DFSM) is a foundation-level qualification for those aspiring to supervisory management positions. It is offered by the Institute of Financial Services (ifs) - a subsidiary of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) - and by the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland (CIOBS).
If you wish to develop your career beyond the diploma, you may follow the CIB/CIOBS Associate ship course, which can be undertaken by either block release or distance learning. On completion, if you are a student in England and Wales, you're also awarded a BSc (Hons) in Financial Services from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).
Foundation and Advanced Modern Apprenticeships (MAPPs) may be available for people aged 16-24..

Probationary Officer in Bank?
A Bank Probationary Officer (PO) in the bank is the starting level appointment for bank officers and the promotional prospects are quite healthy with the work as it defining the limit for the candidate's success. Job profile of PO (Probationary Officer) is General Banking, administration work and any other work assigned by the Bank from time to time.
In Public Sector Banks, A Bank PO can be asked to do anything till the completion of its probation period. He/she generally assigned to various responsibilities, as directed by the Sr. Manager. They are trained for accounting, marketing, finance, investment as well as billing.

A Knowledge in banking terms and their activities will help you in success. Learn a lot about Reserve bank of India, about their acts, policies, committee etc, do the same for SEBI. Make note of authors and their books in that year as far as general knowledge is concern, then know about important people arriving India and also about summits [where when] .

A candidate must work upon his vocabulary ,should know lot of English words. In bank exam, especially for P.O post it gets tougher when it comes to English aptitude. Keep the behavior of reading lot of English papers and books.
