Topic: National Flag ( static gk)
Design : based on the Pingali venkayya's version.
Adoption of National Flag: on 31st December,1929 , in the lahire session of Congress .
Original flag contained: Mahatma Gandhi's spinning wheel at the centre .
Adoption of Free India National Flag: on 22nd july , 1947 , by the constituent assembly.
Emblem of the Flag: Dharma Chakra of Emproer Ashoka .
National Flag unfurled for first time: At the Central Hall of the Council Hall ( now known as the parliament ) on 15th August, 1947
First Public flag salutation ceremony: on 15th August,1947 , held at 'War Memorial' at the Prince Park near India Gate
First flag hoisting ceremony: on 15th August 1948 onwards, at the red fort
Dimensions: Ratio of width to length is 2:3
Colours: meaning of colours described by Dr. S Radhakrishnan
(1). Saffron:- courage , renunciation and sacrifice
(2). White:- truth , purity and peace
(3). Green:- faith , fertility and prosperity
Wheel(Chakra): in the centre of white band in navy blue colour
Design of wheel: abacus of the Sarnath lion capital.
Spokes of wheel : 24
Diameter of wheel: approximately equal to width of white band.
Display: governed by , Prevention of improper use act 1950 and prevention of insults to National Honour Act 1971.
Fabric used for flag : shall be made of hand spun and handwoven cotton/silk/khadi as prescribed by the Bureau of India.
