भारत की पहली यात्री ट्रेन 16 अप्रैल, 1853 को मुंबई (बोरीबंदर) से ठाणे के बीच चली थी। यह ट्रेन 34 किलोमीटर की दूरी तय की थी और इसमें 14 डिब्बे थे, जिसे तीन भाप इंजनों द्वारा संचालित किया गया था।
