Last evening, in collaboration with Kachrewaale and , we had the pleasure of hosting a screening of Plastic Detox, a documentary that follows six couples facing infertility linked to plastic exposure. The reality is the following, micro plastics are everywhere, from the clothes we wear and the food we prepare to the products we use at home, and this constant exposure leads to disastrous impacts on our health such as obesity or reduced concentration.
Around twenty-five participants, the majority of whom where students from Alliance Française Jaipur and Indian Women Impact joined us for the screening. Before the film, our audience answered a short questionnaire on their knowledge of plastic exposure.
We were joined by Garima Poonia, founder of Kachrewaale, environmental leader and policy strategist, as a speaker for this event. We discussed the statistics that surprised the audience most, the meaning behind “recyclable” plastic, the omnipresence of plastic in our daily lives (even in items where you wouldn’t expect it, such as waterproof paper coffee cups), and the simple steps we can do to reduce our exposure.
