Today, as everybody wakes up to the151st birth anniversary of " The father of the nation", that he is to 138 crore Indians and "The Mahatma" to the world, so which if it wasn't for one of the most horrible times of human history in terms of the current pandemic, this day would have surely been clebrated with much fanfare.
However, even if the pandemic has left the celebration high and dry, we still can take this opportunity to, in this forced seclusion, remember his great soul in deepest reverence and renew our pledges to uphold the ethics, morals and virtues he epitomised.
So, as an educator, I would with much pleasure like to pay my humble tribute by quoting one of his compelling thoughts on education.
And I quote " The real difficulty is that people have no idea of what education truly is. We assess the value of education in the same manner as we assess the value of land or of shares in the stock exchange market. We want to provide only such education as would enable students to earn more. We hardly give any thought to the improvement of the character of the educated "
