Essay:
Many people think that zoos which kept wild animals by man-made environment should no longer exist in the 21st
century. To
what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
In this 21st century, many things of the past are becoming redundant. The existence of a zoo is one such topic of debate where some people believe that zoos are not needed. I do not agree with this statement as I see many advantages to having zoos.

Many animals either have become already extinct like the Dodo, and some are on the verge of becoming extinct. Many endangered species need protection. There are animal sanctuaries and zoos that come to rescue these animals. Here these animals are bred and taken care of very well. There are many cases around the world where endangered species have been bred in the zoo and saved from becoming extinct. When there are excess of animals, they are transferred to other zoos, or they are sent back to their original habitats.

Zoos have a commercial aspect; hence, they generate money that can be used for the betterment of the zoo animals. It also employs people. For ordinary people, especially the children, the zoo is the easiest way to see and learn about animals.

Some people who favour the closure of zoos think that animals are not treated well there. There have been reports of deaths of individual animals in some zoos. This is a situation where the people need to distinguish between an accredited zoo and a roadside zoo. We should discourage and report such zoos where we feel that they are not treating the animals well.

To conclude, I would say that zoos are needed in this 21st century so that animals get protection and for humans to understand and learn about them.
