Our Story

$ 5 Trillion Economy : Vision to Reality

As Indian aspires to reach the US$ 5 Trillion benchmark by the end of 2022, it is imperative to understand that where do we stand and how do we reach the goal. As of 2019 end, Indian economy is pegged to reach US$ 2.9 Trillion, which leaves the nation with 3 years to cover a gap of US$ 2.1 Trillion. In terms of growth rate, it translates to a real GDP growth rate of 20%. It is obvious that India requires some miracles in addition to mega reforms and massive national willpower.

There are many questions and puzzles ahead. There are even more challenges and conflicts awaiting. First and foremost, where will this growth be rooted? Which are the sectors that will lead this growth trajectory? What will happen to agriculture, environment, and industry? Will there be a symbiotic relationship possible or only frictions? Will it be possible to expand the industrial output and productivity, both at such breakneck speed? What role will technology play in this quest? Do we have enough and capable human capital? Will we reap the demographic dividend or we will be doomed under the population burden? Will our legal and executive paraphernalia match up the desired pace of reforms? Beyond government, is the famed Indian entrepreneurial spirit ready to take up the challenge? What will be the shape, design, and division of this US$ 5 Trillion economy? What are the kind of reforms required for each of those sectors and sub-sectors? What will be role of the geopolitical and geostrategic forces? What will our competitors do? What will be the issues and challenges posed by the political forces within the nation and beyond?

There will be obvious, more, and yet unforeseen challenges in our path as a nation. We may not have all the answers and not even all the questions. However, we have - intent and imagination, courage and conviction, wisdom and willpower - to ask the right questions and to seek the right answers. As the Indore Management Association initiates this quest, we aim to explore and understand the role we can play as an individual, as an entrepreneur, as an agriculturist, as an industrialist, as a service provider, and above all, as a committed Indian.The previous editions of the Indore Management Association’s Annual Conclaves brought the brightest of the minds from across the world to ponder over the challenges of evolving Industry 4.0 technologies. We invite you once again to join us in this homage of national rejuvenation and put our combined efforts to translate the US$ 5 Trillion vision to reality.
