! Happy Diwali to All !

Today, on 2nd October, the whole country celebrates the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
Gandhiji played an important role in the independence of the country by following the path of truth and non-violence. The birthday of this priest of non-violence is also celebrated by the United Nations as International Day of Nonviolence.

Gandhi had studied law and went to South Africa to represent a client. Upon his return, he joined the Indian National Congress and led nationwide campaigns for farmers, peasants and labourers. She also fought against caste discrimination and fought for the expansion of women's rights.

He led some of the most historic movements in India's freedom struggle. He led Indians to break the Salt Law through the Dandi March in 1930, which helped Indians believe they could challenge the might of the British. He also led the Quit India Movement in 1942.

Mahatma Gandhi believed in religious pluralism. He wanted India to be a secular nation and he struggled to make it a reality. But in his view Muslim nationalists led by the Muslim League on the one hand and Hindu nationalists led by the Hindu Mahasabha and Rashtriya Swayamsevak on the other. Gandhi, who opposed partition, could not stop the partition of India into Hindu-majority India and Muslim-majority Pakistan.

Gandhi was assassinated by the Hindu nationalist Nathu Ram Godse on 30 January 1948.
