The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Senapati, Manipur celebrated the 79th Independence Day on 15 August 2025 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. The Director of the institute Prof Krishnan Baskar, unfurled the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem sung by all attendees. Around 300–400 students and 40–50 faculty and staff members participated. Sweets were distributed, and a cultural programme showcased role plays of iconic freedom fighters like Rani Gaidinliu, Rani Lakshmibai, Bhagat Singh, and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. Students also performed classical dances, including Kuchipudi, reflecting the spirit of unity and patriotism.

On the fateful day of 13th August 1891, martyrs of Manipur - athouba Yubraj Tikendrajit and athouba Thangal General were hanged in front of the public at Pheidabung, presently known as Bir Tikendrajit park by the British Imperial Government.

In remembrance of their sacrifice for their motherland, demonstrating true spirit of patriotism, IIIT Manipur pays its heartfelt tribute and deep respect to all great revolutionaries with a compassionate heart.

The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Senapati, Manipur hosted a one-day programme, Empowering Education Through Mother Tongue, on 9th August 2025 at its City Campus, Mantripukhri, Imphal. Jointly conducted with Mylai Thiruvalluvar Tamil Sangam and the Federation of International Thirukkural Forums of Thiruvalluvar Chair, Tamil Nadu Open University, Chennai, the event emphasised the significance of learning in one’s mother tongue, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and advocating a decolonial approach to education.
The day began with a spirited quiz competition based on the theme Empowering Education Through Mother Tongue. In the school category, conducted in Meeteilon, six selected schools participated: Rama Krishna Mission School, Imphal; Keishamthong High School; JNV Imphal West; JNV Bishnupur; Srivan Higher Secondary School; and Central High School, Chalou. Rama Krishna Mission School took the first prize of Rs. 5,000, Keishamthong High School the second prize of Rs. 4,000, and JNV Imphal West the third prize of Rs. 3,000. The fourth and fifth prizes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 went to JNV Bishnupur and Srivan Higher Secondary School, respectively, with Central High School impressing with its enthusiasm. A parallel quiz for B.Tech Engineering students was also conducted with the same prize amounts. In the afternoon, school students attended screenings of documentary films on M.K. Binodini Devi, G.C. Tongbra, and Laishram Samarendra, offering valuable insights into Manipuri literary and cultural heritage.
The prize distribution ceremony at 4:00 pm was presided over by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, as Chief Guest, with Prof. Krishnan Baskar, Director of IIIT Manipur, Kalaimamani Dr. Murugan, and Dr. Rajeswari Murugan of MTS Academy, Chennai, as presidium members. Lifetime Achievement Awards were also presented to Prof. S. Arumugam, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Open University, and Dr. Thangjam Dhabali Singh, Chairman and MD of BABINA Group of Companies. The Treasure Trove of Scientific Award went to Prof. Ksh. Lal Bihari Sharma of Manipur University. The Treasure Trove of Arts and Culture Award was conferred on Dr. Gurumayum Bijoykumar Sharma, Manipuri writer and critic, Koijam Premkanta Meitei, Pena Artist, Lansana Chanu Thokchom, folk singer and London Keithellakpam, Manipuri fiction writer and Shri Appakutty Vedarathinam, Managing Trustee of Kanyakgurukulam Women Welfare Trust, Tamil Nadu, received the Treasure Trove of Knowledge Award 2025.
The event also saw the release of the 66th edition of Ariviyal Poonga. Speakers highlighted that fostering education through mother tongue is crucial for preserving identity and cultural values, while promoting innovation. In keeping with NEP 2020, they stressed that a decolonial mindset is essential for India’s educational future.

Glimpses from the recently held Drone Bootcamp organised by IIIT Manipur in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad.

The intensive five day Bootcamp workshop on "Electronics for Unmanned Aerial Systems, Sensors, and Communication" which concluded on 23rd July brought together academic experts and armed forces to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and practical deployment of drone technologies for defense and surveillance applications.

IIIT Manipur organised a faculty development lecture on 19th July, 2025, on the topic “Research & Innovation: A Way Forward for a Developed Bharat” which was delivered by Dr. MK Surappa, INSA Senior Scientist and Adjunct Professor, National Institute for Advanced Studies, Bangalore, Former Director, IIT Ropar, Former Dean, FE, IISc, Bangalore, Former VC, Anna University. Prof Surappa’s lecture focused on the research environment in India in comparison with the rest of the world, and how India can excel in the field of research and innovation based on incisive observations.

He also delivered a talk on "Engineering and a Successful Life" to the senior batches of the BTech students of IIIT Manipur on 21st July, 2025 where he focused on the importance of inter-disciplinary approach in today's modern world.

collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad, today commenced a five-day Bootcamp on Unmanned Aerial Systems, Sensors, and Communication. Running from July 19th to July 23rd, 2025, the program is being held at the IIIT Manipur city campus at Mantripukhri and aims to significantly enhance capacity in the rapidly evolving field of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).
