🎉 Proud to share our first research publication!
We are delighted to announce the publication of the first research article from our ICMR-funded "SPIRATS" Project:
“Chronotype prevalence and influence on sleep quality and behaviour in athletes of Thang-Ta, a traditional martial art form of India”
📖 Journal: Performance Enhancement & Health
🏢 Publisher: Elsevier
⭐ Journal Impact Factor: 4.1
📅 Published online: September 2026
🔗 DOI: 10.1016/j.peh.2026.100458
🔬 Key findings:
• Morning chronotype was the most prevalent among the athletes.
• Poor sleep quality and maladaptive sleep behaviours were observed across chronotypes.
• Evening-type athletes demonstrated a poorer overall sleep profile and greater social jetlag.
• The findings highlight the importance of sleep optimization and chronotype-aware approaches for adolescent athletes.
This publication marks an important milestone in our project — “Prevalence of sports injury and evaluation of associated risk factors related to circadian chronotype alterations, postural imbalance, nutritional inadequacy, and psycho-physiological factors among traditional sports players of Manipur, North-East India.”, contributing to a better understanding of chronobiology, sleep, recovery and performance in traditional sport athletes.
🙏 Heartfelt thanks to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for generously funding and supporting this research, and to National Sports University (NSU), Manipur, for providing the institutional support and facilities to conduct this project.
We are deeply grateful to all the athletes, coaches, research team members, collaborators and institutions whose valuable contributions made this work possible.
