A Training-cum-Demonstration Programme on Scientific Onion Cultivation was organized by ICAR-RC-NEH Tripura Centre in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sepahijala, and the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Sepahijala, at Telkajla, Mohanbhog Block, Sepahijala, Tripura, on 21 September 2026.
The programme was graced by Dr. Biswajit Das, Principal Scientist, ICAR, Dr. Utpal Dey, SMS, KVK-Sepahijala, and AR Subrata Debnath, Agriculture Sector Officer, Melaghar, along with other officials and participating farmers.
During the programme, Dr. Biswajit Das delivered a technical lecture on important aspects of scientific onion cultivation, including optimum spacing, weeding, intercultural operations, and harvesting practices. He highlighted the importance of adopting improved production practices for achieving better crop growth and productivity.
Dr. Utpal Dey, SMS, KVK-Sepahijala, interacted with the participating farmers and encouraged them to adopt and promote scientific onion cultivation practices. He provided technical guidance on nursery bed preparation, insect-pest and disease management, and other essential crop management practices.
To facilitate better understanding and practical learning, a hands-on demonstration was also conducted during the programme. The practical session enabled farmers to observe and understand the recommended cultivation techniques directly.
The programme provided an important platform for knowledge sharing, capacity building, and promotion of scientific onion cultivation practices among farmers of the area.
