“SAY NO TO DRUGS”
The Excise Circle Office, Udumbanchola, organized an awareness programme titled “Vimukthi – Say No to Drugs” on 8th January 2025 at the SCB Hall, Nedumkandam, commencing at 11:00 a.m. The programme was conducted as part of the Vimukthi Mission with the objective of creating awareness among youth and high school students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of leading a healthy and disciplined life.
The programme commenced with a rally from CTE Nedumkandam, which served as a powerful campaign against substance abuse. The rally was flagged off by our respected Principal, CPAS, CTE Nedumkandam, Dr. Satheesh Kumar J. The rally was actively conducted by teacher trainees, SPC volunteers, and students of GVHSS, Nedumkandam, under the able guidance of our beloved teacher Smt. Kochurani Varghese and student coordinator Adarsh T. R. Carrying placards and raising slogans advocating a drug-free society, the participants marched in a disciplined manner towards the SCB Hall, Nedumkandam, the venue of the main programme.
After reaching the venue and settling down, the participants were provided with refreshments arranged by the Excise Department, which ensured their comfort and readiness for the forthcoming sessions. Following this, the awareness programme formally commenced.
The first session began with a welcome address by Shri Harikumar P. S., Assistant Excise Commissioner and Vimukthi Mission District Manager, Idukki. In his address, he highlighted the increasing menace of drug abuse among the younger generation and emphasized the significance of awareness programmes in preventing substance addiction.
The welcome address was followed by an insightful session by Shri Santhosh R., Health Inspector, Pampadumpara. He elaborated on the importance of blood donation, its precautions, and its vital role in saving lives. He also discussed the prevalence of lifestyle diseases among youth, the necessity of regular physical exercise, the adverse effects of over-exercising, and the growing risk of heart attacks among young individuals. His session effectively motivated the audience, especially students, to adopt healthy lifestyles and to actively participate in blood donation for a healthier tomorrow.
Subsequently, the Circle Inspector of Excise, Udumbanchola, Shri G. Vijaykumar, along with his team, conveyed sincere gratitude to the resource person for delivering such a meaningful and informative session.
Adding a literary dimension to the programme, Anjaley A., a student of GVHSS, Nedumkandam, recited the poem “Oru Kavitha Koodi” by the late Malayalam poet Anil Panachooran, which deeply touched the audience and reinforced the emotional impact of the programme.
The programme then featured a felicitation address by the Grama Panchayath President, Shri Shihabuddhin Ittikkal, who stressed the importance of saying no to drugs and urged the youth to remain vigilant and responsible members of society.
The programme was formally inaugurated by the beloved MLA of Udumbanchola, Shri M. M. Mani. In his inaugural address, he spoke about the ill effects of drug abuse and alcohol consumption on individuals, families, and society, highlighted the prevailing laws against substance abuse, and motivated students to lead disciplined, purposeful, and socially responsible lives.
The programme came to a successful conclusion with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri Adone Godfred, Assistant Excise Inspector, Udumbanchola, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to all dignitaries, organizers, participants, and volunteers for their cooperation and support.
