Research-driven B-school that grooms future leaders for India and the world.

The Indian School of Business (ISB) evolved from the need for a world-class business school in Asia. Established in 2001, the ISB has successfully put India on the global map of management education by pioneering several new trends in research, promoting innovation and training and nurturing young leaders who not only have an understanding of the developing economies but the society at large. “I took the view that this (India) is where the economic engine of the world is, and I wanted to be a part of it,” shares Thomas Hyland (PGP Class of 2010), who Co-founded Aspada after graduation, in this episode of Impact Chronicles.

Believing in India’s potential for impact and growth, Thomas made the unconventional move from the United States to India.

What began as exploration soon turned into deep immersion in India’s startup and investment ecosystem. He is working at the intersection of finance, entrepreneurship, and impact to build and back businesses tackling real challenges across sectors.

Choosing to pursue his management education at ISB was also a deliberate step, not just for a world-class education, but as a way to anchor himself in India and be part of its growth journey.

Watch him in conversation with D N V Kumara Guru, Senior Director – Alumni Engagement at ISB, as he reflects on that decision and the opportunities he saw in building from within India, on our YouTube channel.

Pramath Raj Sinha, Founding Dean, ISB, in an opinion piece in The Hindu, underscores the need to place scholarships at the centre of India’s higher education strategy. He suggests that the focus must move beyond increasing seats to addressing core challenges around access, affordability, and quality.

He further highlights how this approach is reflected at ISB, where financial aid is designed to enable access, nurture talent, and build diverse, high-quality academic communities.

"Coming from a world where almost everyone in my closest circle had come through the IIT pipeline, thought in the same analytical ways, solved problems through the same lens, I could feel a kind of “perspective fatigue” setting in.

ISB shattered that, in the best way possible. This past year showed me just how wide the world of perspectives really is, and more importantly, how much that diversity matters, especially when you're in a position to lead and build teams. It's a lesson I couldn't have learned in a classroom alone, it had to be lived.
And then there's the other thing ISB gave me: the courage to actually try. We all carry invisible barriers, the hesitations that keep us from crossing that first threshold into something new. It reminds me of “activation energy” in chemistry, that initial push you need before a reaction takes off. The people here are exactly that. They nudge you (FOMO also helps), back you, and before you know it, you're not only trying something new but you're in love with it.
The most entertaining, impactful, and genuinely transformative year of my life yet, and every bit of it traces back to the people.

Here's to the ones who were my activation energy."

“ISB wasn’t just a milestone; it was a dream I carried quietly for years. Walking this journey with my 3-year-old son beside me made it even more meaningful. In that moment, I felt overwhelming pride and gratitude. I hope it reminds every young mother that their dreams are still theirs, whenever they choose to chase them.”

We recently marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Ramoji Auditorium at our Hyderabad campus.

Supported by a generous gift from the Ramoji Foundation, the 450-seater auditorium has been envisioned as a space that will bring together ideas, dialogue, and diverse perspectives. It will serve as a venue for academic sessions, convenings, and exchanges that contribute to learning, leadership development, and institutional engagement.

The auditorium was inaugurated by Sri Ch. Kiron, Trustee, Ramoji Foundation, Smt. Sailaja Kiron, Smt. Ch. Vijayeswari, and other members of the Ramoji family, in the presence of Harish Manwani, Chairperson of the ISB Board; board members G.V. Prasad, Srini Raju, Pramath Raj Sinha and Nitin Paranjpe; Dean Madan Pillutla; Professor Kavil Ramachandran, ISB; and DNV Kumara Guru, Senior Director – Advancement, Alumni Engagement and External Relations, ISB.

This inauguration marks an important addition to ISB’s academic infrastructure, further strengthening its ability to host meaningful conversations and enable impactful learning experiences.

"Embrace the idea of patience, not to see it as a punishment or a dream deferred, but rather to view it as a gift…"

Addressing the Class of 2026 as Chief Guest at ISB’s Hyderabad campus graduation ceremony, Erika H. James, Dean of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, reminded graduates that leadership is built over time through resilience, self-awareness, and a commitment to growth.

Her message was clear. In a world defined by uncertainty, patience is not a delay. It is an investment in becoming the leader you aspire to be.
