Press Note
Osmania University: Today, the Valedictory session of the Two-Day National Seminar on "Revisiting Mahatma Jyotiba Phule’s Vision: Its Contemporary Relevance" was held. This event was organized by The Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Research Centre (MJPRC), Osmania University, Hyderabad, Telangana, in collaboration with the BC Welfare Department, Government of Telangana, and the Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE), TG.
The Chief Guest for the Valedictory function was the Chairman of TSCHE, Prof. R. Limbadri. The Guest of Honor was Prof. B. Reddiya Naik, OSD to VC. The Valedictory Address was delivered by Prof. CH. Srinivas from the Department of Physics, OU, and the Special Invitee for the event was Prof. G. Mallesham, Dean of Development & UGC Affairs, OU. Dr. Chalamalla Venkateshwarlu, Director of MJPRC & BC Cell, was the Convener for the Seminar, supported by Prof. B. Mangu, Director of Dr. BR Ambedkar Research and Resource Centre (BRARC) SC/ST Cell, and Dr. Syeda Azeem Unnisa, Director of MLBCCWS & Minorities. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Prof. B. Lavanya, Dr. Swathi, Prof. Rajaram, Prof. Chandru Naik, and paper presenters from various states across India.
Dr. Chalamalla Venkateswarlu, in his address, shared that the seminar aimed to delve into the profound ideologies of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, exploring their resonance in modern socio-political landscapes with diverse perspectives from various researchers. He profusely thanked Sri. Burra Venkatesham, IAS, and Prof. D. Ravinder, VC, OU, for their relentless efforts and support to the MJPRC at OU. He also thanked the Chairman, TSCHE, Prof. R. Limbadri, for his support in conducting the two-day National Seminar.
Prof. B. Mangu thanked the Vice-Chancellor and Sri. Burra Venkatatesham for their constant support and guidance at the Centre and conveyed that the recent unveiling of the busts of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule is a unique contribution of the present administration.
Prof. B. Mallesham, in his message, exhorted members and teachers to inculcate the sense of dignity of labor among the students. He said the foresight and ideas of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, though enunciated close to a century and a half ago, still stand relevant. He conveyed that while people often think of reservations only for competitive exams and job purposes, they were meant to create social equality.
Prof. B. Reddiya Naik conveyed that during the times when Mahatma Jyotiba Phule was spreading his deep-rooted ideologies of thwarting the suppression of lower-caste communities, it was not the internet era, and they probably couldn’t connect with the origin of species by Charles Darwin. He conveyed the struggles and sacrifices of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and his wife, Savitribai Phule, in working towards equity in society on various fronts. He presented a zoologist's perspective on the philosophy of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.
Prof. CH. Srinivas, in his Valedictory Address, conveyed that on most internationally computed indices, India is not performing well, emphasizing the importance of working on it. He stressed the need to enhance contributions to GDP to overcome many drawbacks in present-day situations and highlighted reservations as a means of representative democracy. He reiterated the philosophy of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule that acquiring knowledge would open our third eye of realization, leading to emancipation.
Prof. R. Limbadri conveyed that to understand India, one should read the philosophy propagated by Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. He urged teachers and researchers to make society more equitable, emphasizing that it's only possible through quality education. He reiterated that the presence of many girl students in universities and higher education today is the result of the efforts of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and his wife, Savitribai Phule. The reason for discussing this in a national seminar is due to the trials and tribulations faced by Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.
In the feedback from the participants in the two-day workshop, they expressed their happiness in gaining diverse perspectives from the chairpersons' knowledge and the papers presented by the delegates.
