The University of Hyderabad (UoH) celebrates the remarkable achievement of its alumnus, Sh. K. Swamy Nath, who has been commissioned as a Lieutenant after excelling at the Officers Training Academy NCC, Kamptee.

Lieutenant Swamy Nath’s path was paved with grit. Orphaned at a young age in the remote village of Akkaram, Telangana, he overcame extreme poverty and worked casual jobs to fund his dreams. His academic brilliance led him from VM Home School to UoH, where he earned an Integrated MA Batch: 2006-11 and M.Phil. in Economics Batch: 2013-15. A UGC-NET qualifier and doctoral fellow, he is currently finishing his Ph.D. at Sri Venkateswara University.

Beyond his academic prowess—having served as an Assistant Professor and a multi-time "Best Teacher" awardee at Sainik School, Kalikiri—Lieutenant Swamy Nath is a beacon for the next generation. As an Associate NCC Officer, he has mentored many cadets into the NDA, IMA, and INA, turning his personal struggle into a roadmap for others' success. Swamy Nath has been working at Sainik School, Kalikiri since 2017.

"I was trained by the best at UoH," says Lt. Swamy Nath. "The support from my teachers and friends during my hardest times remains my greatest motivation."

Global Recognition: Dr. Bibekananda Panda Joins LSE as Visiting Fellow We're thrilled to announce that Dr. Bibekananda Panda, alumnus of MA Economics batch (2005-2007) at the University of Hyderabad has joined the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) as the Subir Chowdhury Post-doctoral Visiting Fellow for the 2024-25 academic year!

It is a moment of great distinction and pride that Professor Srijit Mishra, faculty member at the School of Economics, University of Hyderabad, has been appointed to the Technical Expert Group (TEG) constituted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The TEG, chaired by Dr. Surjit S. Bhalla, will play a pivotal role in guiding the design and ex*****on of India’s first-ever full-scale Household Income Survey, scheduled for 2026.

The inclusion of Prof. Mishra in this esteemed panel acknowledges his long-standing contributions to economic research, statistical methodology, and evidence-based policy studies. His expertise will contribute significantly to refining concepts, developing survey instruments, ensuring methodological rigour, and improving the reliability of income distribution data in the country.

This survey is expected to be a landmark initiative, offering critical insights into income patterns, the impact of technological shifts on household earnings, and providing a robust foundation for policy formulation and economic planning.

Sh. Shishu Ranjan, University of Hyderabad alumnus (MA- Economics, Batch: 2008-10) has been promoted as Director in Model Risk Management (MRM) at Barclays Global Services India, a subsidiary unit of multinational financial firm Barclays Bank, headquartered in London. Barclays is a global banking brand with 334 years of banking history and holds the honour of introducing the first cash dispenser machine (ATM) to the world in 1967. As a Director, Shishu Ranjan will be the head of Barclays Retail Model Risk Management India team which manages the credit risk econometric and statistical models developed for UK Banking Business activities, Impairment Reserve Quantification and Capital Adequacy under Banking Regulatory Guidelines.

Shishu Ranajan joined HSBC in 2010 through campus placement drive at the UoH and worked there for more than six years. Progressing his career, he joined PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) US Advisory in 2017 and later joined as Assistant Vice President in Barclays by the end of that year. With more than 14 years of experience as a Risk Management Professional, he is now a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Regulatory Credit Risk domain that ensures bank solvency with adequate capitalisation under various macroeconomic conditions.
