The power of serendipity - by Ms. Lily Nair

In the summer of July 2024, I had a fortuitous encounter with a former student of ISH. I was at a Vietnamese restaurant in Washington D.C., with my brother and some friends, when a young, bearded lad appeared from the corner and asked me if I recognized him – unfortunately, I did not at first. He then introduced himself as Kushaal Marri, Class of 2020! And then, recognition struck immediately, as I peered beyond the grizzly facial hair. We took a photograph and shared some pleasant memories. I had taught Kushaal IGCSE history, and I was also his College Counselor in later years.

Such is the power of serendipity!

As ISH embarks to recreate a vibrant alumni network, I hope that all of you out there, in different parts of the world, will join to make this vision a reality.

It is high time, don’t you think?

In my retired life, I look forward to reading and relishing in your successes and perhaps, meeting you somewhere, sometime, just as I bumped into Kushaal.

This November, ISH family is coming together to support Movember and raise awareness for men’s health. From our staff growing bold mustaches to students sparking meaningful conversations, we’re all part of this important movement. Let’s unite together to raise awareness for research related to men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer mental health, and overall wellness for the men in our lives.
