Presenting our fifth committee...JCC: DNC v RNC

In a spectacular showdown between the two mainstream parties of American politics, we don’t invite you to watch on the frontline; we urge the creme de la creme of the Model UN circuit to join us to be an essential piece to an elaborate political manoeuver. This is not an experience to be taken lightly; it is a carefully crafted house of cards, with each piece you lay on top, each card you withdraw from the pack having clandestine motive that only you and a handful of your trusted advisors will know of. Tread cautiously, for one wrong step, and you risk the collapse of your entire presidential nomination. Be warned, debate and scheming at this simulation will require quick thinking, extraordinarily brilliant public speaking skill and of course, the rare political wit. Do you have what it takes to survive?

It is nothing short of a privilege to be amongst the fifteen member states who determine the course of history. But to be amongst these fifteen with the power of hindsight is beyond the dreams of many. Yet, here at the Historic Security Council, we give you this, along with so many other resources. Use directives, press releases, and crisis notes to determine the outcome of an event that shapes the world order today as we know it. Karl Marx once said that history repeats itself, once as tragedy and once as farce. Could you, with the power of hindsight vested in you, change this? Could you alter a right, fix a wrong? Could you rewrite history for the hope of generations to come?

Introducing our third committee...the World Social Forum

In a world of bias and prejudice, we present to you an opportunity to debate the lesser-known perspective. At the World Social Forum, delegates will engage in a unique debating experience representing non-state actors including NGOs and regional bodies. A committee without the customary power struggle of nations and governments, we invite you to explore the lesser-represented stakeholders in today’s global system. Deliberate issues, exchange ideas and collaborate towards a solution as you go backstage, witness a whole new outlook and become the players who really hold the strings to control international relations today.

In a world of conflict, strife, and war, what is often overlooked is the suffering that follows. What is often overlooked are the basic human rights that should not be viewed as a luxury, but rather as the necessity that it is. Today, 27 million people are currently enslaved in the human trafficking trade around the world. The ISHMUN Secretariat presents an opportunity for you to give a voice to not just these 27 million people, but to every person whose fundamental rights are being violated. Will you take up the challenge of creating a unilateral voice, of building a bridge between state and civilian; will you take up the challenge of protecting the rights of billions of men, women and children across the globe today?

As international tensions today reach a boiling point, the fear of its repercussions spreads wider across the world with the creation of every new ICBM. And yet, life goes on, the promise of tomorrow lingering uncertain – even in the most powerful diplomatic chambers. But we invite you in February to delve into the depths of the problem, to investigate issues that threaten international peace and security and step into the shoes of diplomats from across the world to engage in debate about the most pressing disarmament issues of the era. Welcome to the largest committee of ISHMUN 2019, the Disarmament and International Security Committee.
