A National Non governmental organization(NGO) with an aim of educating the underprivileged children This remains to be the perennial problem of the country.
BACHPAN BACHAO Society
The child is the father of man”-This famous quote by William Wordsworth refers to the importance of the role of a child in the development of society on a small scale and the human race on a larger scale. Taking cue from this, our organization BACHPAN BACHAO (which means SAVE CHILDHOOD in the Indian national language, Hindi) is striving towards improvement in the livelihoo
d of children by fighting against illiteracy, eradicating child labor and ensuring healthy development of children. The statistics as on 2006 tell us that 46.1% of children belonging to the age group 5-14 years in India are illiterate due to which they are indulged as young offenders and labor. The current scenario demands education for everyone because we believe that ROOT CAUSE of ALL PROBLEMS is illiteracy. Hence, the main focus of our organization is on making primary education accessible along with instilling moral values to children belonging to poorer sections of the society, thus paving a path to help them have successful lives. Bachpan Bachao undertakes following activities:-
->Conducting awareness camps in rural areas regarding importance of education, thereby helping shape a better society,
->Checking the state of schools in villages, providing them with basic infrastructure and ensuring that the basic needs of the children are met with,
->Conducting sessions on a regular basis where we create awareness among high school students regarding future opportunities and prospects
->Striving to improve the quality of life by conducting health camps for children from poor economic backgrounds as they are vulnerable to malnutrition and other diseases. The primary motto of our organization is to let a child grow to become a successful person in life. Be the change what you want to see in this world”-Mahatma Gandhi
Taking the essence from this great quote, I have started an organization Bachpan Bachao to function as a catalyst stirring a change in the lives of underprivileged children and youth, by addressing the issue at the grassroot level and also enabling the youth to engage proactively in the Civic Driven Change
Our primary agenda being imparting education to children of poor economic background, we have always made sure our objectives are always met without any deviation. We set measurable goals and achieved them diligently and enthusiastically in the stipulated time and thus, were able to move the activities of the organization further to the farthest goal. Being the team leader, my tasks included determining the grey areas and improving upon them, thereby further strengthening our organization. My team was opportune in finding any voids I might have left, hence making coordination easier. Dividing ourselves into various smaller groups, we have undertaken different developmental activities such as:-
PROJECT MTTV (Make a team, Teach a village)-conducts awareness campaigns for people of the poorer sections, be it any new scheme of the government, importance of education or pragmatic issues like educating a girl child. PROJECT PUSTAK - setting up of small scale libraries in primary schools. PROJECT TALENT-conducting various workshops and competitions to bring out the innate talents in a child, helping in their all-round development. PROJECT HEALTH- Aims at improving the general health of children, both physically and mentally through medical camps and health awareness campaigns. PROJECT VIKSARA (Viksara means pure water in Sanskrit)-Providing access to potable water by installing RO (reverse osmosis) plants. Our vision of achieving universal primary education can be best explained by quoting Swami Vivekananda “Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man”. Paraphrasing these lines for a better understanding, man is a living being with infinite energy in him which will let him excel in any of his chosen path. Education is a medium through which this infinite energy can be put to work for the greater good. Education helps us understand the thin line between right and wrong, without which evolution doesn’t occur and we remain aborigines. Universal primary education is an absolute pre-requisite for a sustainable nation. Education brings awareness among the masses, opens avenues for opportunities as well as self advancement and improvement. It reduces chronic and inter-generational poverty. It paves way for gender equality in developing nations. The world is becoming a melting pot of diverse cultures and education is the only channel to attain global connectivity thereby, helping each other in becoming the global benefactors. Today, global literacy statistics paint a gloomy picture. Illiteracy threatens over 785 million adults worldwide, translating into one in every five people on the planet, with either no or just basic reading skills. Two-thirds of the illiterate population is women. Our education systems are struggling to accommodate escalating population and child labour. This MDG is our prime area of interest since it has a wide perspective and its magnitude of importance is also immense. Illiteracy is a not only an obstacle of a single nation but is a global issue. In a world of fast changing priorities, deteriorating humanity and delayed commitments, we realize that we have to be the change that we want to see in this world as we take a stand against illiteracy and pave way for a better world.
