You blame her dress, you blame her friends, you blame her habits and her motives for staying out as an escape from the atrocities. You call it all her fault as it is one among you that has sinned. But, well it gets so convenient to overlook the fact that it was inhuman and monstrous and not deserving for any living being.

But, well what do we do beyond a candle vigil and a few hours of protest for the media and calm down before we settle down with a paper and remote in hand and start lecturing our daughters on "how to stay safe." Sad it is that we still think about asking women to not get r***d rather than ask men not to r**e. Probably that is because, not just men, even women somewhere deep down have accepted the fact that they are bound to be r***d and need to be "protected."

I wonder whom do we seek protection from? Men who we call as our own (father, brother, husband, uncle, teacher, neighbour?) Well, are there not instances when a girl was r***d by the same people who the society has designated as the protectors of us "women."

According to a statics provided by the (National Crime Records Bureau) NCRB, which shows that 31,807 (94%) were familiar to the accused, which includes neighbours (10782), other known persons (18171), relatives (2315) and parents (539).

Well, that's not all, the horrible is yet to come as the age of the victims according to what the statics revealed that most victims are aged between 18 and 30 years (15,556) and 14 and 18 years (8,877).

And what more? The nation has been witness to the most gruesome crime as the past year saw an increasing number of r**e cases where children around the age of 3-6 were r***d and that too by their teachers.

Most of us made a hopeful start with the new year wishing that we would never again have to witness such horrifying instances ever again in our life, but then the monster has risen again and there has been an instance where an eight year old was molested by a teacher.

What is the path on which the nation progressing and what is that we are offering to our younger generation? Well, I'm sure that the "people's representatives" have a better explanation and an excellent excuse as to how that girl was provocatively dressed or did not call the assaulter as a "brother" when she was being r***d.

Or well, is it like the same case where the Delhi High Court judgement on r**e and murder of 65-year-old where it had stated that “As regards the offence punishable under Section 376 IPC the deceased was aged around 65-70 years, thus beyond the age of menopause. We find force in the contention of the learned counsel for the appellant that even if the sexual in*******se was forceful it was not forcible and contrary to the wishes and consent of the deceased,”

So, keeping in mind the fact that these kids have not yet entered the age of puberty is it not to be seen as a crime as well. Probably that is what the lawmakers would try to imply even in the case of these kids who were subjected to a heinous act by the monsters who chose to victimise the blooming buds for their animal instincts.
