ST JOHN'S CATECHISM ACADEMY

Monday of Pentacoast-
Mary being called as Mother of Church

Prayer to Mary,
Mother of the church

(Pope Francis)

Mother, help our faith!
Open our ears to hear God’s word and to recognize his voice and call.
Awaken in us a desire to follow in his footsteps, to go forth from our own land and to receive his promise.
Help us to be touched by his love, that we may touch him in faith.
Help us to entrust ourselves fully to him and to believe in his love, especially at times of trial, beneath the shadow of the cross, when our faith is called to mature.
Sow in our faith the joy of the Risen One.
Remind us that those who believe are never alone.
Teach us to see all things with the eyes of Jesus, that he may be light for our path. And may this light of faith always increase in us, until the dawn of that undying day which is Christ himself, your Son, our Lord!

Happy Feast of St Mark the Evangelist

April 25th is the feast day of St.Mark the Evangelist. He is the patron Saint of Venice.

Two popular miracles are attributed to St. Mark:

In this painting we see that St Mark healed and baptized a Famous ShoeMaker. The Shoemaker's name was Anianus.
St Mark went to Anianus'workshop to get his broken sandal fixed. When Anianus was working, he hurt himself with one of his tools and cried
"Heis ho Theos" which means "God is one". At these words, St. Mark started to preach the Word of God and, with his spittle mixed with dust from the street, he miraculously healed Anianus. Anianus then became a Christian and was baptized by St. Mark himself.

In this second painting, St Mark heals a Christian Slave. The slave was tortured and beaten up by a rich man. He was going to be killed for worshipping St Mark's relics. Suddenly St Mark arrives, flying downward into the scene. His only presence is so powerful that the instruments of torture gets broken into pieces.

Happy Feast of St Anselm 🎉

Books by St. Anselm
April 21st is the feast day of Saint Anselm. He is a doctor of the Catholic Church and a brilliant scholar. He was called the “Father of Scholasticism”. He was an independent thinker. He was admired for his patience, gentleness, and teachings.
His best-known work is the book Cur Deus Homo (“Why God Became Man”). His Proslogion was wildly recognised for his arguments in favor of the existence of God. He wrote many other books such as Monologion, De grammatico and so on.
I am interested to read The Passion of Christ Through the Eyes of Mary. This book contains the writings of St. Anselm, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, and others. It is believed that Mother Mary appeared to St. Anselm to reveal the sufferings of Christ during his passion. Can you believe that this book is still in print after more than 10 centuries? Have a look at our bio for the downloadable PDF of The Complete Works of St. Anselm of Canterbury.
St. Anselm, pray for us.
