The college is housed in an impressive 8-acre campus in the heart of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. From a student strength of 15 in 1959, the college has grown into a prestigious institution with a student force of 4,059 and a faculty strength of 185 teaching and 104 non-teaching, offering Graduate and select Post Graduate, Diploma and Certificate Courses. Since then the college has proved to be a trendsetter in academic development with a commitment to a value system and qualitative self-improvement. Accredited with 5 stars by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) in the year 1999 and Reaccredited at the ‘A’ Level in the year 2006, it is the first autonomous college in the twin cities, affiliated to Osmania University, Andhra Pradesh. The University Grants Commission has identified the college as a ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ in the year 2004. The College has introduced Choice and Credit Based Semester System in the year 2005 as a positive step towards achieving parity with educational institutions elsewhere in the world. In keeping with the changing trends in the field of education at the global scenario, the college has also introduced Inter Disciplinary Electives (IDE) as an integral part of choice and Credit Based Semester System from June 2006.

IGNITE – Unleash, Create, Inspire

Shastr – The Library Club of St. Francis College for Women hosted IGNITE at the College Library, bringing together creativity, sustainability, and self-discovery with around 100 enthusiastic participants.

The event featured three engaging competitions — Book Cover Making, Bookmark Making, and Best Out of Waste — encouraging students to explore their creativity and environmental consciousness.

The day also featured an insightful session, “Discover Something About Yourself,” by Dr. Tina Fernandes, focusing on self-awareness, personal growth, and emotional well-being.

The event concluded with a valedictory ceremony, including felicitation and prize distribution, to celebrate the creativity and achievements of the participants.

The Department of Zoology celebrated Big Butterfly Month 2026 – India’s largest citizen-led butterfly festival on September 22, 2026.

The programme featured an engaging guest lecture by Mr. S. M. Akbar Sharief, Environmental Educator and Conservation Program Manager, WWF Hyderabad, who introduced students to the fascinating world of butterflies, their ecological significance and the importance of conservation.

The lecture was followed by an exciting Butterfly Walk through the college campus, giving students, photographers and nature enthusiasts an opportunity to observe, count, photograph and discover the butterfly diversity around them and connect with nature, develop an appreciation for biodiversity and actively participate in citizen science & conservation.

The Department of Zoology organised an outreach program under the DBT STAR College – Strengthening Component for Intermediate students from St. Francis Junior College. The workshop, “Exploring Zoology: A Hands-on Workshop in Experimental Techniques for Intermediate Students,” provided students with practical exposure to DNA isolation, cytology, physiological experiments, virtual dissection, museum specimens, and the nervous system of prawns. The sessions were designed to nurture scientific curiosity, laboratory skills, and an appreciation of Zoology as an exciting field of study and career. The Department of Zoology is grateful to the resource person, Dr. A. Padmini, Counsellor, Department of Zoology, Dr. B.R.
