Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences in the world. Space has been studied for thousands of years.

It's the only Department in India which offers Astronomy & Astrophysics courses at master's level and the only University Department with an Observatory that has a 1.2 meter telescope. In the modern world, the fascination with space and astronomy has only increased. It’s important for all to know about astronomy and space so they understand that the universe is a large place with many wonders.

RHO OPHIUCHI CLOUD COMPLEX

The subject is the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex, the closest star-forming region to Earth. It is a relatively small, quiet, stellar nursery, but you'd never know it from Webb's chaotic close-up. Jets bursting from young stars crisscross the image, impacting the surrounding interstellar gas and lighting up molecular hydrogen, shown in red. Some stars display the telltale shadow of a circumstellar disc, the makings of future planetary systems.

2024 Total Solar Eclipse: Through the Eyes of NASA (Official Broadcast) 08/04/2024

Stargazers in India cannot view Solar Eclipse 2024. It is visible in countries United States,Canada,Mexico and parts of North America. According to the Indian Standard Time (IST), the total solar eclipse will begin at 9:12 pm on April 8, totality will start at 10:08 pm & will end on 9 Apr 2024, at 2:22 am. Totality lasts a maximum of 4m 28s. Safe way to look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun is through solar filters like eclipse glasses. Only when the Moon’s disk covers the Sun “only then” it’s safe to look at the eclipse without filter.
