Sugars - There are two types of Sugars.
1).Naturally Occurring Sugars
2). Added Sugars or Refined Sugars
Natural Sugar - sugar that is naturally present in whole, unprocessed foods like milk and fruits.Foods that contain natural sugars are usually paired with extra nutrients like antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.
Example : Berries, Banana.
Added Sugars / Refined sugars - Sugars that are heavily processed and added to packaged food products while processing or manufacturing.
Example :
High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)
Glucose syrup
Inverted sugar syrup
Dextrose
Corn syrup
Hydrolysed starch.
Recommended Daily Allowance of Added Sugars - Children aged 4 to 6 should have no more than 19g of sugars a day (5 sugar cubes).
Pay attention to nutrition labels, and stay below the recommended level of added sugar per day.”
Research suggests that a diet high in refined sugars may contribute to behavioral problems and reduced cognitive function in children.
